ShugenDO beta released
« on: February 28, 2009, 04:44:41 PM »
hi guys. this isn't a work from me, its from Sakirsoft.

Quote
Today i released beta build 162. You can find it via the download section on the main page.

Okay here are some details for this build and what have changed.

-Some minor cns fixes as usal
-cns parser speede up
-32Bit unicode font support.
-correct 2D mapping of texture coords and correct transforming
-experimental key mapper in the option menu

-new xml based def format for chars.
-new xml based container format ( currently only for 32bit png files and only usefull for developers )
-fixed pal related gfx bug for old ATI cards and NVIDIA cards. Currently new ATI cards are still suffer from this problem.

Known bugs.
-Juggle points are not implemented yet
-corner push is not working right
-If you select a second char in training and cancel your selection ShugenDo will crash
-Char shadow will flip upside for one tick when he turns
-Hit Counter attributes are currently hard coded
-sub trans ist not implemented yet
-parallax bg elements are not parallax right now

Little FAQ.

Quote
I can't use start to select and escape to cancel selections. WHY?
=========================================

Normaly ShugenDo uses key "a" for selection and key "b" for deselection or going back.
You enter a menu point by pressing key "a" and go back via key "b".
It like in a console game where a escape button does not exist.
I know that many pc user will complain about that. And i will fix that soon. So the escape button will simulate a key "b" press. And the start button a key "a" press.

Does ShugenDo support cmd arguments?
=========================================

Yes.
ShugenDo now supports command line arguments. So you can easy load just two players and a stage.
The command line arguments are like this

ShugenDo <player1> <player2> <stage>

Here a example
ShugenDo.exe kfm kfm stage0.
This will start ShugenDo with kfm as player 1 and kfm as player 2 with stage0 as the stage.
The char have to be in the char folder and the stage have to be in the stage folder.
I included a test.bat file. You can modify and use it for easy char testing.

Whts the default keymap?
=========================================

Player1:

UP = ARROW UP
DOWN = ARROW DOWN
LEFT = ARROW LEFT
RIGHT = ARROW UP
A = NUMPAD 4
B = NUMPAD 5
C = NUMPAD 6
X = NUMPAD 7
Y = NUMPAD 8
Z = NUMPAD 9
START = ENTER
SELECT = RIGHT SHIFT

Player 2:
UP = W
DOWN = S
LEFT = A
RIGHT = D
A = G
B = H
C = J
X = T
Y = Z
Z = U
START = LEFT SHIFT
SELECT = CTLR

Okay now lets come to the beta testing part.

Create a topic on the "Bug Reports" section.
Name it "My Bug Report for Build 162"

The first thing i need to know is your System Spec.

Operating System
Ram
CPU
Grafic Card

Now create one replay for one char and its cousing bugs.
Please include the log file via a spoiler and do not upload it somewhere couse some time it will dissapear.

I will look in to it and will comment on each bug for each char when possible.
Also please include a download link for that char.

DOWNLOAD - http://www.sakirsoft.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=1&Itemid=14

Bugs need to be reported there: http://www.sakirsoft.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=ijaifl9f2qi904l0ooveh6smg7&board=6.0

EDIT: removed my bug reports. This could encourage people to not download it, and it really needs a try

it has some bugs to care off, but seams wonderful program. Will Mugen has a successor FINALLY?

I really like the palette selection . There's many times when I exit a battle because I chose the wrong palette . The stage preview is nice also . But , doesn't there seem to be some lag in the battle part of it ?

If don't know beta build 177 was released.

Well currently ShugenDo needs more testers which could make detailed reports at MFG or SakirSoft Forum. So if you have time, you want support sakir, you like what he's done please test your characters and sublimit bug reports with log files. It really help kill bugs. Just check out my topic at Sakir Forum to see how he fixed some errors in chars I tested. You work will help and will be apperciated. At the end I let speak sakir for himself:

I would be happy about some more beta testers.
I also constantly testing most chars of the communty members here but i think the author will know better whats work and whats not..

Wow, This looks very impressive. I hope this project will continue, and I will try it out later today as I got a dentist appointment in a few minutes -_-.

I'll post again once I test it out.

By the way, Did I see a (currently disabled)  Network option on the demo Video?

Site sometimes go offline. Give it time and she will be back up.

Regarding project, you can try but ShugenDo ism't complete yet and many things doesn't work like it should or don't work at all...

You can run any char you want but there will be bugs. That's why Sakir need more people to sublimit bug reports. He is one man, he can't test all chars in Internet. He kills bugs one by after another. Here you can see my reports and how sakir fix them:

http://www.sakirsoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=528.0

But don't be scared, chars works some better some worse. Stages are supported but they need to be converted. With next release (in few days) there will be tool by tunglashor which will automatically convert your stages to work with ShugenDo

Online is in plans but it have low priority as far I know. Don't expect it soon. For now finishing engine and compatibility with Mugen files is main concern.

Last thing I'm not in team. Sakir work alone, I'm just promotor who love his work and spread the news.

sounds nice.
it would be a good idea if he tests the complex characters cus these might cover most of the bugs.

Yeah complex characters would have much bugs... I recommended some of them to Sakir and maybe he check some of them but like I said he is busy enough with fixing stuf and developing ShugenDo.And like we all now testing is time consuming :P So more tester = more reported bugs = more fixed bugs = better stable of engine.

Hey Jarek

Something that I miss is a manual, saying all the new stuff that was added. I know that stages now have some programation, that there are new sctrls and such

Because it is searching the char files for errors (actually, it checks for errors like PlaySND when the right is PlaySnd)

That's not quite right.  Firstly the char is parsed for errors at the point it's loaded, not during the fight (as I understand it, anyway).  Secondly I'm pretty sure the parser is not case-sensitive, so PlaySND should work just as well as PlaySnd.  If there are performance issues it may be down to your hardware - I think ShugenDo requires a higher spec machine than Mugen.  You'll need a reasonably new graphics card to get the best out of it (by the way, Intel on-board graphics chips are not well supported currently).

Stages are supported but they need to be converted. With next release (in few days) there will be tool by tunglashor which will automatically convert your stages to work with ShugenDo

Yeah that's right.  Stage implementation is one area that will be very different in ShugenDo - SakirSoft has big plans for allowing fully interactive stages which should allow all kinds of things not possible in Mugen.  However currently this is still WIP, and not all Mugen stages are convertible yet.  Stages which use BGCtrl elements - that is, timed animations etc - aren't yet supported, and if I remember right neither are tiled animations.  The converter I've written will check for unsupported features and skip the stage if any are found.  Obviously the idea is to update it once these features are added to ShugenDo.

Guys I can tell you that I've been friends with sakir and have followed ShugenDo's progress for about 4 years now. He has great talent, and is fully committed to finishing ShugenDo.

ShugenDo now has a lot less bugs than it used to. It's becoming more compatible with each beta release because of people beta testing and giving bug reports. I can honestly say that this WILL be our next generation mugen, in time. A lot of that time depends on us.

ShugenDo plans to support on-the-fly screenpack switching. Interactive stages. Network play. Video file support, like avi or wmv, etc. And many other features.

Right now Sakirsoft's main concern is finding bugs and fixing them. The sooner this is done, the sooner other things can be worked on, like what I mentioned above. I don't know about you, but beta testing and getting this awesome thing called ShugenDo sounds like a good deal to me. :-??

No, I mean that it was parsing for errors BEFORE the fight. This is a issue that Sakir should work a bit: Mugen makes the same thing A LOT FASTER than ShugenDO.

Yeah.  That wouldn't cause slowdown during the fight though, which I think the question was originally about.  There's probably a lot that can be optimized in the future, we'll see I guess.

Well, officially it ought to work if your graphics chip supports Direct3D 9 with PixelShader 2.0.  Have a look here, see if your chip is in the PS 2.0 row or later.  However, the Intel GMA chips are listed there and they don't seem to work at the moment, so it's a bit of a crap shoot  :-??  I think the Intel drivers are problematic and SakirSoft doesn't have an Intel chip to test with at the moment.
