Adding colors to a palette in photoshop ?
« on: February 19, 2008, 03:19:14 PM »
I use photoshop to sprite & there are many times that I will eyedrop on a color in my photoshop color grid . When I goto use it on my pcx file , it paints it as a different color . Reds will be be brown , Blues will be purple etc .....

Acey told me .......

"The problem is that your current sprite has a color palette of 256 colors and no new colors are allowed. you have to add the colors to the palette too."

She is not familiar with photoshop . So couldn't help me the rest of the way .

Does anyone know how to take care of this problem .

Any help would be appreciated .

Thanx !

Went & DL'd this program from Random Select . There are 2 options , the version in Porteguese or Spanish . So I go with the Spanish version figuring I could just wing it . Doesn't really help me too much .  :(

Thanx for trying !

If you add the colors to the character in photoshop:

1.  Save the file as an 8-bit BMP (if possible; if not, save it as an 8-bit PNG file with NO TRANSPARENCY)
2.  Use whatever program you use for palettes to open your new file and save the new palette (test.ACT)
3.  Open the palette in Fighter Factory (click the icon that looks like an old paint palette)
4.  Add your other sprites to the list of files in the left-most window pane (this will make sense when you open FF)
5.  Choose to apply the palette to these sprites (must be individual files... BMPs or PCXs ONLY), save
6.  All of your sprites should now have the new palette with all the correct colors.

Also, make sure that you are not trying to eyedrop colors from a 24-bit picture into an 8-bit picture, photoshop will get confused and not draw the correct color.  Now is when I will shamelessly promote Fireworks as my program of choice for editing sprites...

with photoshop, go to image > mode > color table to edit the pallete of 256 color images. If you want to add a color, just add it to that. there's a tutorial i made a while back that kind of deals with it.
