About what tournament are we talking about? I believe it starts with 1 on 1 and stays that way, if it starts with 4 Player Free For All then it stays that way too.
Let's say you get 16 players, there will be 4 matches and 4 winners, the 4 winners will have a last match up and the winner takes whatever price is held for him.

the gameplay of characters:

marth- he is pretty good and is a very excellent swordsman that can strike in a blink of an eye
snake- even though he is not much of a close fighter type, his weapons are very useful and if you know how to use them you can dominate the battle
Poke trainer- the three pokemon are good and I seem to suck at playing them but these characters are pretty good
mario- a very balanced character, his mario tornado has been assigned to the down A move in the air
metaknight- like marth, he is also a great with swordplay, and seeing how he is good with the sword, he is my main now
