Starting all over again.... Character Help!

For some reason, no matter how many times i start a new electbyte player, insert the pallet and PCX sprites, create the standing animation and input sound, i try and test in WinMugen (After a save all) and i get his error:

Error Message: Can open file: Constants.cns (Sometimes it also says "States.cns)
Error loading: chars\ffchartest\ffchartest.def
Error: P1

Library Error Message: Error reading sprite sff\LOGO.sff
Cutscene Error Reading Data/LOGO.def

If you can reply back quick enough, ill send the file (already .rar'ed and ready to go) for inspection, and maybe you can see what i'm doing wrong.

ALSO: I've noticed upon loading the def file, the pallet doesn't load with the Def. I actually have to click "open" on the "color pallet" box and manually load the pallet into place. Strange.....

Ide suggest testing in steps, like after every bit of code.

I had that error and it was all because of one code so i had to remove it to get it to work.

Just code in steps and it should come out better

I'm not sure what the exact issue is, but I'lltake a quick stab at it. Now, an error in constants seems odd to me. Most charracter's constants come from the coomon1.cns.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess the problem might be in your .def file for your char.

My suggestion is to open your character's def in wordpad and verify you've got something like this:

; Definition file for Name
; Contains all the filenames needed for the character

; Player information
[Info]
name="Name"
displayname="Name"
versiondate= 04,14,2001
mugenversion=04,14,2001
author="Creator Name"
pal.defaults= 1

; Files for the player
[Files]
cmd       = name.cmd
cns       = name.cns
st        = name.cns
stcommon  = common1.cns
sprite    = name.sff
anim      = name.air
sound     = name.snd
pal1     = name1.act

The st. common= is usually common1.cns, located in Mugens file directory. Notice that the cns and st is the same. This is often the case, but not always.

This second issue might be if you have an intro storyboard listed in the .def and you don't have one (but I'm not 100% sure on this-- Ive never seen this message.) If that's the case, simply semicolon it off in the .def file like this:


;[Arcade]
;intro.storyboard=
;ending.storyboard=

The semicolons tell the engine not to read these, so that it sdoesn't crash when it can't find a storyboard.

the problem its these   remove the number 10 versiondate=10
