I have a good old fat (originally 40GB, upgraded to 250) PS3 that runs like a dream and never thinks about stopping. It takes up nearly no room, and when I carry it I don't worry about how heavy it is.
No need to upgrade to either version.

(also have an original big PS2, runs better than the baby white one that someone else I know has)
