What's good ya'll? I need some help. I'm a terrible rice chef, so maybe one of you can help me figure out the proper rice to water ratio (I always end up burning the water). Any help is appreciated. Thnx!

I meant how do you burn water lol. Anywho just use a large pot and fill it to the top and let it boil. Large pot hold about a gallon or a little bit more or water. this should be enough for about 2 maybe 3 cups of rice. So its plenty. add rice once  water is boiling and cook for about twenty minute unless its the instant rice. The fire/ temperature should be at medium setting. if you cook it at high the water may evaporate and cause the rice to burn. If using instant rice follow directions on box. The texture of the rice should be tender/ firm.  you can stir and check the rice while it cooks (check by taste, watch as rice may HOT). The rice will go from looking grayish to whitish when done. once done pour into a stainer/ colander. raise thoroughly with HOT water. lets sit for about five minutes to let excess water drip from rice.  If it come out mushy or gummy you over cooked it.

Once you cooked rice enough times you can cook it my smell and sight. Have fun.  ::salute::

Sorry. I wasn't ignoring your post. It's just that I decided to start the rice before making this thread. I decided to take a small nap since I didn't get allot of sleep last night and I ended up burning most of the kitchen up.......

The water to rice ratio is 2 times the amout of water then the amount of rice.

I.E. If you make 1 cup of rice use 2 cups of water, Etc.

I just figured id tell you anyways.  :)  there are other ways to cook it if you  <_<|google| but this way is the easiest so as not to burn it. A rule of thumb when using this method is theres never a such thing as too much water. So you first few  times use extra water just to make sure you dont burn it. id rather over cook it then burn. cause burnt rice is a beach to clean.

The water to rice ratio is 2 times the amout of water then the amount of rice.

I.E. If you make 1 cup of rice use 2 cups of water, Etc.

Not always true. Its is if you know how to cook it the right way. But i been around for a while and many people dont. they cook it with the temperature too high and evaporate all the water burning it.  *Iceman ThumbsDown!*

anywho check google or youtube for videos on cooking rice.

Thanks for your help!  :)

But I ended up burning all my pots too!  \-/o \-/o The worst part is that I never even turned on the pot that had the uncooked rice in it and it went undamaged in the kitchen fire. -_- I want to try your suggestions but my kitchen is FUBAR atm. :(

wholly crap man! what you do? put the rice on and went to sleep, walked the dog and ran to the store? man def have to be real careful making rice. its tricky bro.  plus depending on what kind of rice your making. we made ours the old way and had to actually "wash" the rice before making it.

actually both Whiplash and Rage have it pretty much on the nail with a hammer. you wanna make sure to add the right amount of rice and right amount of water. but the no matter what , your fire setting will be a main factor cause the higher temp you cook it the faster it will dry out. plus you should REMOVE the whole pot from the burner after turning it off and let the rice sit for 5 mintues and fluff with a fork. the rice as well needs to soak up the remaining water. I always add a half teaspoon of butter/margerine in the water preheating with a tab of salt before boiling and adding in rice. there are many methods but derf as well what kind of rice are you making .  you wilol get it bro, trial and error man, just try not to keep burning all your pots and house.

Damn.. you really are terrible.

Uhh, yeah, you're gonna need an egg for it.

Here, this is exactly howyou go about it.

http://chinesefood.about.com/od/ricefried/r/basicfriedrice.htm

BTW, to make rice:

Ingredients:

1 cup parboiled rice (let's say one cup, so if you need to add/take away just use fractions)
2 Tablespoons butter or margerine
2 cups water

1. Put some rice in a pot.

2. put in the butter/margerine

3. turn the heat to medium

4. stir it around and what not until the butter melts, and keep that going until you get the rice to a golden brown.

5.put in the water in he pot and cover it.

6. wait until the water is all gone. (GO SEE ThE POT EVERY 5 MINUTES)

7. remove from heat. You're done.

You guys just make me want to quit. I've already burned my hand pretty badly by trying again (I was still hungry after the fire) and now I have you all insulting me. Maybe I should just eat fruits all the time. That's easier to make and I usually do it right.

Your the second or third to say something like that. So you burn food. you wash the dish and used it again. I wish i had money to toss every time i burn something. Yeah even things that catch on fire and be cleaned with the right tools. i.e. a old school steel wool scrubber, all natural elbow grease, and classic warm soapy water.  8=|

MAN I WISH I COULD TOSS THINGS CAAUSE THEY WERE BURNT. ITS SUX CLEANING THEM  :DxDie  ~X( :'(

/:O Wait a minute ....... who has sporks in there house? never seen anyone own them. Never seen the then out side of school.  ;*))

I never aid that, really. Follow my directions and you'll have perfect rice.

Margarine is just butter made with vegtable oil instead ofmilk, that's all, some people use it cause it's healthier, but it has a different favor then normal butter, so it's up to you to choose which to use.

I really want to help, but without bein in the room there's not much I can o aside from what I did.

I'm not wasting money on a rice cooker so I will try again.

those things should be illegal in a house, they serve practically no purpose other than eating fruit in a cup. thats it.  i saw one in my house the other day and set off the panic alarm and tossed it away while wearing a full body chemical sweatsuit. It came from Popeyes , my sister went and bought some chicken and mash taters. she should have said NO SPORKS!  @^@

you need water enough to cover all the rice just a bit (like two fingers over) and its okay.

This method is better than use a ratio of cup of water/cup of rice.
