Trying to Reduce Load-time...
« on: March 06, 2011, 09:17:53 PM »
I'm using Necro_RK's "Neon" Screenpack in Mugen 1.0, and I noticed that it takes a long time to load. Then I took a look at the status log file discovered the issue; my Mugen was trying to load all of the empty character slots as if they were actual characters, like so:

Error reading character file: chars/-----BLANK-----/-----BLANK-----.def

Now, my question is, is there any way to write an empty slot so that Mugen recognizes it as that and doesn't try to load it as a character? I'm sure that would reduce my initial load-time by a ton.

Just type "blank" or "empty" that's what I do.

It's not working. I tried both "blank" and "empty", and Mugen still tries to load them as characters.
It might've worked if I was using Winmugen, but I'm using Mugen 1.0. Looks like I might have to just live with it.

Thanks anyway, though. :)

It works, mugen still works but he's having problem with load time, not broken stuff.

SO did you know that when you type in "blank" mugen actually looks for a character called blank and since it doesn't find one 'it leaves the slot empty, that's what he's trying to find a solution to.

I don't know of one but I also never heard of blank names causing load time to jump up. Maybe there is a different reason, so...

1) What type of computer are you running (memory, processor, etc...)
2) Are you just waiting at a black screen or a mugen load screen?
