General opinion of Acer laptops

First, I'd like to thank everyone of you that provided feedback about Windows 7 as it was very beneficial.

That said, I have a question with Acer laptops as looking at one I can get a good deal on with Windows 7. (will also have an AMD Athlon 64 dual core processor)

Do you think they are reliable enough in their general construction?

No, but nothing affordable is reliable and Acer has a better rep than some others like toshiba or worse compaq which are famous for breaking down (Hp also as it is owned by compaq). My dad owns an Acer and it's functional after two years which is pretty good for a PC but that isn't to say its never had problems. I use a dell and it's lasted a full year and is still running great but tends to overheat which is worrisome.

The only company that I've heard strictly good things about (excepting apple, but you can't trust mac users  )  is Alienware. But their kinda expensive. Still great computers though, especially for gaming.
