Lex Luthor 1.0
« on: November 15, 2008, 04:12:40 PM »

A week and a half after an historic U.S. election here in the "real world", I'm proud to announce the release of the (near-)final version of Lex Luthor! This represents countless hours of hard work from ScruffyDragons Smogon, Enzo, McCready, Arque, Magus, SethZankuten, and myself, plus many additional hours contributed by SD forum members Kojunho, Tenchimuyo4ever, Doktor Avidan, Gate, ShockDingo, R@CE45, and many more.

Here's the shortlist of things that have been added/updated/fixed since the Beta1b release a few months ago:
  • bugfix: added juggle checking to standing hard punch and Tyrant Drill
  • added two R@ACE45-designed hypers: Kryptonic Blast and Tyrant Finisher (thanks, man!)
  • added air version of Kryptonite Ray
  • separated electricity from Lex himself in electric armor sprites
  • tweaked several gethit sprites
  • new special: Air Tyrant Drill
  • new special: Energy Shield
  • new intros: "Speak softly" and injustice league
  • added damage dampener to Nanite Swarm
  • new special: Flamethrower
  • added "special finish" background for win-by-hyper
  • tweaked Stiletto Blade: order of slashes changed, split it into three strength levels
  • added taunt
  • added custom intros versus Dr. Doom & Superman
  • new winposes: "Mercy, I need a drink", and bootjet flyaway
  • added Red and Blue modes to Kryptonite Ray
  • new Kryptonite Ray sprites by McCready -- thanks a ton, man!
  • added the finished hyper portrait by Arque - you rock, dude!
  • added arcade intro
  • created several "novelty" palettes for the higher slots (ironman/warmachine/superman/drdoom, several others courtesy of Doktor Avidan)
  • added "burned" sprite
  • added triple-jump and air dash (in lieu of a true "flight mode")

Head on over to his page on my site to download him, and feel free to email/PM/reply me your feedback.

Only one thing to say Buyog.

Freaking Awesome...The only complaint I have is that the nanite swarm is a little hard to pull off I have always had trouble doing the back foreward, back foreward maneuvers (that and the 360 maneuvers for characters like Zangief.)

- Electrified armor has two commands (f,d,df,punch and punch rapidly)
- Nanite Swarm's command I don't think fits (charge back, forward, back, forward, 2 punches)
- Tyrant Finisher goes through people if your standing right next to them
- You can do at least a 13 hit combo by just duck HP after a launcher in the corner.
 nice progress though

- Tyrant Finisher goes through people if your standing right next to them
The tyrant finisher, that is my fault and i blame myself for it, becuz when i coded the move, i up'd the velocity on Lex making it so that he would slide almost to the opponent.... I will have to go back and see how i can fix this porblem... however for a small fix until i figure out how, if u have some knowledge with messing around in the cns u could go to the move and reduce the velocity coding and that should make it so that that doesnt happen, but it will reduce his range as to how he does the move....

I usually make music for mugen so i'm still learning coding myself... so, anyway thanks for letting buyog kno that, if he doesnt figure it out before i do then, it''ll get fixed... so dont worry...

Now for my feedback to Buyog : By the way Buyog on one of the supers, the Kryptonite Blast, i cant remember if i put a sound effect in when the beam is actually being shot or not but anyway, there isnt a sound effect on that, so i kno it a small thing but you might want to add like a beam sound effect to it when it actually gets shot to giv it more effect....

Overall, well worth the wait buyog, i luv what u have done to lex and the person you have doin his voice, Superb!!!!!

Its funny though, i kno he has 4 supers already, but seeing some of the other stuff u have made, i see the potential for 1 or 2 more super moves atleast..... But i dont kno if your one of those people who dont like the character to have like 5 or so supers moves so, its all up to you..... Either way, still luv how he turned out and i'm gonna do it for my own personal use anyway so...  :-??

Also Buyog, i used a red kryptonite beam on Kong's collosus, and dude he got dizzy and it drained his life bar as well as his power bar. Dont kno if u meant for that to happen or not, but i liked it, cus it makes it where i can kick his muscle bound butt   ;D

and by the way the Armor system.... Oh man Buyog, that BLEEP!!! is awesome dude, GREAT IDEA!!!!!  Plus the different Kryptonite Rays, oh yeah man, that is tight too...

And i also noticed for the Kryptonite Blast you made newer sprites for the beam and explode  :w00t: SWEET!!! plus u fixed the moves up too

And last but not least, thanks for crediting me Buyog, i enjoyed contributing to the cause,  ::salute::  :)

First off grats on the great update!

As mentioned before;
His red Kryptonite Ray is broken, I can just sail through fights by repeating it, 1 hit and Lex's wins.

As for people complaing about the Nanite Swarm being too hard to pull off, actually it isn't but they're prolly putting in a HCF accidently, thus triggering the Ray Hyper.

On a small note; in his in game move list the Nanite hyper is listed as B,f,b,f, K while it is done with B,f,b,f, P
"Such heroic nonsense!"

 Awesome :o

I think the only thing I would like to see added would be a throw manuver. Otherwise Lex is perfect.

Thanks for the comments. I made Nanite Swarm a bit hard to pull off to prevent it from being abused, it was originally WAY too powerful. The winpose thing is a minor bug; I've uploaded a fixed version, but if you don't want to re-download the 9MB, it's a simple fix to one line of the basics.st file, just change line 68 to:
value = 181 + ((Random * 3) / 1000)

I agree he could easily get more hypers, and in fact when he is the midboss in DCvsMarvel, he'll have at least 3 others I've already spec'ed out. Plus at least 2 throws/grapples. Plus more than likely at least a few more intros/winposes. So, yeah. More to come.  8)

Erm, no, my page works just fine. I just tested it again to make sure.  :-??

I just uploaded a new version of Lex with a few bugfixes:
  - fixed issue that allowed you to spam multiple colors of Kryptonite Ray
  - fixed bug that kept a couple of the winposes from displaying
  - fixed a bug in the arcade intro's movelist

Nothing major, but anyway.

(Regarding the link, I think that this forum and the Scruffy forum handles www links differently, I went and changed the code a little)

I have been hoping to see the finished Lex Luthor ever since I first discovered Mugen. This is a very happy Mugen day for me. Thank for all the hard work that was put into him.

Have you considered standardizing the Kryptonian detection in some way?

the characters is very good.
1-i don't know much about the dc vs m project standards but i just feel that he is a bit slow (even for an armor suite guy) then again maybe it's just me
2-normal attacks combos are a bit difficult to execute
3-gethit by kryptonite ray seems a bit delayed (not in sync with the ray hitting the enemy)

will test more through soon

Erm... how so, without editing every Kryptonian character out there? As far as I know triggering off P2Name is the only way to do it...  :-??

I agree that his combo system is a bit stiff... I prefer that over the prevailing MUGEN philosophy of MvC2 style, frankly, but it still could use some work.

He and Acey both explain the way they like to design the way characters combo, but when the AI can do said combos super fast and easy (because it's a prorgam, duh to me), it seems unfair that user players struggle to do so as well.

Granted with this release, I took that into consideration and learned to time my attacks better, but I'm still tempted to run him through Dos2Win just to take the edge off.

What difference wil that make?  He's already coded for WinMugen.

You just need to initiate something unique.

A character that has anim XXXX with a helper id of YYYY and a var(Z) of AAA, or some such thing.

I just know that it is going to be a nightmare to update Lex and to get people to re-download him everytime a specific type of new character is released.

Try an experiment. Make a copy of Lex. From that copy, remove the sff file, run Dos2Win, put the .sff file back, then Load that lex into mugen under another name and it to the original.

You'll be surprised how much easier it will be to chain combo.

I see what's happening.  For some reason dos2win replaces 'MoveContact = 1' with 'MoveContact' (i.e. MoveContact > 0).  Same goes for MoveHit and MoveGuarded.  Not sure why it does this as it's effectively breaking the character but yes, it would certainly give you more time to combo.

Note to character developers - if you want to prevent this happening when dos2win is run on your character, use 'MoveContact=1', 'moveContact = 1' or some other variant (i.e. omit the spaces or change the case).  Judging by the dos2win source code it won't detect those  :P
