Super Smash Bros Meiling (aka SSBB Hong Meiling/China)

Right, so now we come to the 3rd mugen character pulled out of mr. Ricepigeon's @$$, and this time it's not anything to do with Inuyasha (whoopee), but with Touhou (oh f**k yes)



Yeah, sh*t just hit the fan. Only, she won't be playing like her traditional IaMP self, nor SWR, but rather the Smash Bros series.

Obviously this is going to include stuff like A and B attacks, shield and shield grabs, her Final Smash, and hopefully items.

Of course, I may implement a few Brawl exclusive stuff such as footstool hopping, but I'm going for more of a Melee feel (lol, Hong Melee-ing, I made a funny)

Obvious the toughest part is going to be the items. I might do what I did with Kagura's Enemy Skills and implement those last, with the exception of the Final Smash, which requires the Smash Ball.


As you can see, she'll have a Double Jump as all characters in the Smash series have, as well as her shield and no automatic turning as most MUGEN chars do. I might redo the shield before the first release though.

Right now I'm a bit undecided on a final moveset, although I do have one move in mind for her Final Smash.

Of course for items, I do have a few planned if they ever do make it in:

- Smash Ball (this one's mandatory)
- Fire Flower
- Super Scope
- Metal Box
- Assist Trophies:
  • Sakuya Izayoi
  • Remilia Scarlet
- Pokeballs:
  • Chansey
  • Hitmonlee
  • Electrode

Well China finally has some moves in, namely her basic 1,2,3 combo and her down smash:



The smash charge (right) from Melee and Brawl wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Since I haven't really touched Melee in a while I'm not 100% sure what the damage increase from charged smashes are, but right now she has a placeholder damage scaler doing up to x1.8 normal damage when fully charged.

I don't think the damage percentage increases when you charge in the Super Smash Bros series, but then again, we don't have percentages in Mugen lol

Quite a random question, but how do you pause MUGEN? By the way this looks really cool! Will it be compatible with SSBB Kirby?

u can pause mugen by pressing the pausebreak button on ur keyboard. its in the same row as the buttons F1 through F12. its the last button in that row right after scroll lock

Well all Smash Bros characters are supposed to have a "triple jump" (with the exception of Jigglypuff and Yoshi) as their Up+B, who said China was supposed to be any different?



Ironically, I actually recycled part of the code for Kagura's Dance of the Dragon for this. Obviously the damage is much lower than DotD.

Also say hello to the first of China's 4 specials. Milestones ftw!

Well in Brawl, Yoshi's third jump now somewhat makes him fly up a little bit, compared to the melee version of him. Also, that screenshot is looking beautiful Rice Pigeon, keep up the good work ^^(PM)^

Well thats nice to know, having only played Brawl twice (no Wii for mii :( )

Anways, more progress:

Notable changes:

  • Her shield has been redesigned to mimic the one used in Brawl.
  • Rolling dodges are now slower, to stay true to the roll dodges in Melee.
  • China now has grabs and throws. Well, actually she only has her down throw at the moment, but its more than enough to take down stupid ol' Sephiroth.
  • China's Up Special can now be steered left or right, similar to Link's Up Special in the official Smash Bros. Games.
  • China now has her forward and running attacks. The two are pretty much identical, except the running version pushes the opponent back further and China slides forward during its execution.

Yeah I recycled part of the Shadow Ball code from Kagura, sue me. Its only about 40% done. The air version cancels when she hits the ground (as opposed to continuing the charge with Mewtwo, not 100% sure about Lucario). I also need to add the ability to shield cancel the charge, add an explod when the move is fully charged, charge damage, etc.

EDIT:



Changes:

  • Chi Sphere added, which behaves exactly like Mewtwo's Shadow Ball in Melee and Lucario's Aura Sphere in Brawl. The only difference is that she can't charge it in midair, although she is able to fire it in midair. Just think of Samus's charge shot in Melee, but with Mewtwo/Lucario's charge damage added.
  • Rainbow Barrier added. This attack will deflect any incoming projectiles at 80% of their original damage. It can be held up for a maximum of 1 second by holding the button (similar to the way Fox's Deflector can be held up in Melee/Brawl, the only difference with China's is hers can only be held for a limited time). It also does physical damage the split second China activates it, but the damage is rather negligent. Also, Supers are unaffected by the Barrier. This leads to some mindgames against Sanae, as she loves to teleport after launching some perfect fodder for the barrier.
  • China's shield behaves more accurately to the way the shield works in the official Smash Bros games. It now lasts longer, but now shrinks when it takes damage. Some glitches where the shield would disappear have also been corrected, but still happens on ocassion.
