dude... save as png.. dont save as jpg or gif... only gif if it's animated.. which this is not the case. PNG is better quality.

It's quite difficult to judge your sprite edit simply because you saved it as a gif...if your knew to sprite editing, its best to save your sprites as a png or bmp.

Which version of Solomon Grundy are you doing? Is it the sophiscated one or the complete clueless one.

(click to show/hide)

But either way .... the concept is nice , but it's lacking in detail. And did you use grey Hulk as a base or did you completely recolor the Green Hulk?

And I have one more question...
Your last name wouldn't happen to be Phoenix?

the shadings from your sprites look a little bit wierd. bullseye needs some shading corrections, wedigo needs more shading...

You do know that you could of used Grey Hulk as a base right? That way you wouldn't have to recolor the green hulk - which is quite a tedious procedure if done by hand. Just get fighter factory and open the .def file of hulk and presto-you now have the option to choose between the different colored paletts of hulk. Once you have the desired sprite - save the sprite as a png or bmp. With this method you would'nt have to recolor hulk and all of the shading and detail won't be lossed in the recolored process.

But other than that ... it just takes practice to get everything looking good.

I see that you are using existing characters isn't it easier to just use there shading?and then afterward increase or decrease the shading if needed?

With Wendigo it is apparent that you did something like that, however you lost some shades of color and a lot of detail. From the looks of it there's one color for outline, one color for shading, and one for non-shaded parts. Usually, there's two colors for shade and possibly a color for shine (if it's needed only). If you check out the sprite you used of Sabretooth to make Wendigo and compared the two, you'll see what I mean.

We stopped checking for monsters under our bed when we realized they were inside of us.

Posts merged

I do appreciate your enthusiasm for taking on the art of spriting. But......

You do not need to make a new thread for each sprite. I took the liberty of merging your posts & editing the first one for you, just to give you an example.

So from now on just add the new sprites in this thread & you can even modify the first post & add them to that also

try to add a little blue, it tends to work a little better with values of grey.

Your quicksilver edit looks better. But why do you have a blue outline around his gray boots and gloves? You should trying adding a darker gray instead of that blue. The magic number of shades of the same color for me is "4". Take a look at the simple edit I did below and try to see what works for you. Just make sure you view the full image.

I see your still having trouble with sprite editing, but mostly with changing a characters colors. When you swap an existing color for a new one, you have to make sure that you swap it with the same dark or bright color. So if your swapping a dark red for a new color it should be another dark color; and the same thing goes for light colors.

What exactly are those fins on the back of sinisters legs? If there suppose to be part of his costume it should be smaller.

And why exactly is he floating/flying? I don't think sinister can fly.

vitamin555 gave you a good point/advice... at the beginning you should try to get right colors, than put details on the sprite!

heed advice from Vitamin he is reigning champ of the sprite contests this week

I am glad to see some new guys taking interest in the art of spriting. But I will be honest you need some help. You remind me of someone some time ago. I made a tutorial to help & I think it will do you some good to check it out. As there is some useful knowledge for beginning spiters..

Good Luck & keep practicing & posting them
