Select Screen Stance Animation?
« on: April 05, 2010, 08:33:04 PM »
I was wondering, is there a way to change the portrait at the select screen to the stance animation of the character selected?  I'm sure there is, but I'm a very poor coder.  I'd prefer some code to copy and paste, but honestly, just some explanation on what would have to be done would be helpful.  Thanks.

I've never heard of animating it, to be honest. I don't think there is a way.. it's just one sprite for the select screen. You'd probably have to make your own screenpack to do so.

Somtimes  mugen can surprie you, or rather, individule programmer can come up with pretty smart ways of getting things to work.as for the animated stances, I'll believe it when I see it.

Well, I'm sure there's a way to tell it to look for a specific animation instead of the portrait... but if I'm right (with my next to nothing understanding about how coding works) the code that tells which sprite to use for the portrait to use is in the character file itself.  So to do this, I'm afraid that it will take editing every character that you would want this done for.

BUT... if someone can figure out how to do it, it would be awesome.

I know in the case of Project X it's not actually in the game like that and I suspect that the Final Fight Project may be something similar. When the Final Fight Project is released we'll know for sure. I'd be very happy to see someone accomplish it in a release. Mugen can surprize you sometimes.

It is an animated cursor that shifts one whole screen every time you move left or right. That is likely full-game only, sorry guys.

nice trick over there, I know what u did ^^, u used the cursor animations on mugen to display the standing animation of each char, I do the same but to make a diagonal movement like in CVS2 for my CVSW screenpack.

I guess a better question would be, what part of the character's coding tells mugen which sprite is it's portrait picture?  And, can that be replaced with code telling it to instead play a stance animation?

No, but the cursor version is the type of ingenious jerry-rigging that I mean when I say mugen always has something up it's sleeve.

I'll ask Amit Dabydeen about it tonight. I know he'll give me the answer. If he gives it to me, I'll post it on the tutorial
