You've misread, and the person you quoted from was incorrect as well.

The level names are like throwbacks to the old games, but they are in fact completely new levels.

I didn't think all the recent Sonic games were bad. I actually liked Adventures 1 and 2, the 2006 game and even as it's own game Shadow the Hedgehog (though I can't argue on that one, I thought I wouldn't like it), but they got some weird concepts, like him being a black knight. It would be easy if they kept making games like Heroes and Adventure.

However this game WILL be my favourite 3D game ever in the Sonic series.

because 90% of the Mario fanbase are ego-maniacal zombies that will like anything they put out. I played Mario Sunshine, hated it, I played Mario Galaxy, hated it. NSMB.Wii got 4 times the sales of Galaxy, I can't blame people choosing old school Mario style over new school.

As for the Sonic fanbase, well it's been 16 years since a significantly great Sonic game has came out, so nobody wants to be let down, I personally don't have much faith in Sonic 4. The leaked video, the jump was too lengthy and Sonic gains speed a little too fast. The only thing that makes me have faith in Sonic 4 is that it has the same level designer as Sonic 3 & Knuckles. SEGA is a really trashy publisher company these days. =/

Man, Sonic "Fans" are the worst. Personnally, I disliked sonic 1, one of the weakest 2D sonic games IMO.

Also, I'd like to point out that I thought NSMB kinda was a let down. It was far to easy to be anything reminicant of the original mario games.

Back on topic, These boycott idiots are making assumptions based on a not-even-two minute alpha phase video of the game, which absolutely fails to reflect even a possible demo download, let alone the final public release version of the game. Judgmental a bit much?

Also, by purchasing Sonic 1 instead of simply not buying anything, they're still giving SEGA revenue which will only further funding to continue making Sonic franchise games the way they see fit.

Actually you just proved my point your response.  Sonic fans ARE hard to please, just like Rockman, Zelda, Biohazard, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Akumajo Dracula, Mario, and Street Fighter.  I rather enjoyed many of the recent Sonics that have came within the last 15 years.  Maybe I'm just accepting to these franchises, regardless how I felt about Rockman 9, I still like many things within the game especially Splash Woman and many of the tunes while keeping the series from extincting.  ODST was one of the few games that I have play that has turned me off because of the 1 and a half campaign.  I like Halo 1,2, & 3's campaign and hoping Reach has a long campaign.  I'm not much of a online multiplayer person which is why when I play a first person shooter, I want a quality campaign.

On topic, I hope Sonic 4 at least comes out on NDS or PSP so that I can have a hard copy.

Well if the mechanics don't go over well it won't well with the players and be known as a broken game, its not going to be criticized as a good game. Take the TMNT 4 remake for example. A lot of people loved it, but then a lot of people hated it. The same exact thing looks like its happening to Sonic 4.

I'd like to see a super FAST mode, but like ridiculous and out of control. The mario games got a new mushroom type so I am hoping Sonic 4 will have a new thing somewhere in there. I think I saw use of hands in that vid so it looks cool so far.

You know what, I have quite a bit to say about this. I've already mentioned before that this stupid boycott is the result of people viewing not even 45sec of actual playing from a leaking pre-demo build, but it goes even further than that. Sonic fans are simply down-right depressing people for several reasons right of my head that I can think of:

1) Sonic's expection of "speed" -  I blame SEGA for the state he's in. Since his begining he's always been marketed as this wicked-fast creature (Blast-Processing anyone?) when it's never been the case. Go back and play the original Sonics. In retrospect, the games were not about speed, they're platformers. Sure, you've got you parts where he gets straight-aways and loops, that part of the gimick to the game. But for the most part, it's timed jumps, ring collecting, straight jump platforming.

2) Age-varience of fans: - It's a fair enough statement to make that the majority of Sonic fans in action are not any older than 20. I'm saying this as a 29 yr old myself. When Sonic 1 came out, I was 10. Most people my age don't give two ***** about Sonic anymore, we're busy with out lives, our careers, our 2.5 child familes, and if we're still gaming are playing COD or Gears or Halo or Madden, etc. We've unfortunately moved past phase of our lives. So most of today's Sonic fans have spent their childhood with the Adventure series, which after two nose-dived into crapville. Even Adv 1-2 have their moments where you just put the controller down and walk away. (Fishing and Treasure hunting, in my platforming?)

The only high point was the Advanced games, and even then they get the ring-through from fans. Sonic was too slow in part 1, was too fast in part 2, and aparrently no one liked RUSH. Couple that onto the fact that the majority of younger gamers have little appreciation from classic gaming -a fact eaisly proven by hearing the little smart-@$$ mouths on Xbox Live- and it could seem that a new game from the classic series could simply seem pointless. The OG's of us that still care, we're the ones that are who are really excited for this, but that's also the problem because too many of us suffer from #3.

3) The expection of Failure - This is probably the worst of all reasons. So many games have been made, some many have failed. Shadow the Hedgehog (WHY SEGA?) Sonic 06", Unleashed, Sonic's Storybook series on Wii, Dark Brotherhood, etc -not to metion all these unnecessary supports characters that have come from all of these ("srsly", why is there no Sonic Universe brawl-style fighting gme in development, they'd make a killing off that). They've locked into their minds that the OG's are the almighty of the overall series so they already come into a new game fully convinced that it is going to be utter garbage. Sonic fans want him to fail, so they must find fault in any and everything they can so that they can self-fullfill their prophecy. "He moves to fast", "His legs are too long", "What's with the dust behind him when he moves?" "Take the green out of his eyes", the list of complaints can go on.

The sad part is this is exactly what they've been wanting for the past 16 years and now that it's coming, it's not ****ing good enough, and it never will be good enough. They've set their bar too high that no one can reach them, not even themselves. Fan creations are just that, official releases are "Fail", they can never achieve closure.
