is there anyway to have characters animating on the select screen?

Form what I understand,  you would have to build the animations as part of the screen pack. That means every time you want to add a new character, you have to transfer sprites and make new animations for and recode the screen pack just to put an animation on there. seems like only a good idea for someone building a full game of their own charcters to relese.

What I mean is. Is there anyway to make the portrait animate?

No, not unless you program the screen pack for that character spicificly, and it would be a big hassle.

You may be able to design the screen pack, so that instead of going with a sprite number, you can target an animation number. I think that might be possable, only problem is that allot of people may use various animation numbers. Ide say if you went that rout trying to program a screen pack, your best bet would be to base it off of KFM's stance animation number.
