Is It Wise to Update Windows XP?

is it wise to update window XP serive pack 2? I never have?  most of the time zi never update because I always geet stuff from windows that I never use and to save harddrive space 2.  DO you think I should update?

Yes it is highly recommended to switch from windows XP to windows XP SP2. Im surprised you have not gotten any virus's because the stock windows SP1 without SP2 is really bad when it comes to security holes. Then if you want upgrade to SP3. But thats not recommened as much as SP2. Please for the love of good upgrade before you get hit with a huge virus attack.

Well I can say I have SP3 and it does slow down the computer but it does offer of security hole fixes. My boot time went from 1-2 minutes to 3-5 minutes. So you be the judge.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat with that one. I lost a lot of performance with SP3, and now I can't open Windows Media Player (even after updating it).

If you plan to keep SP2, just be sure to stay on top of your virus scans. Also, if you're running Java, make sure to keep it updated as well, and uninstall any old versions of it on your computer. There are a couple of trojans that can still exploit those old, unused versions if you leave them on your comp.

Just stick with SP2 as it is the bare minimal for the new games now.

i have sp3 and all updates till this day, it does not slow anything, unless you have a crap of a computer (xPreatorianx example, wtf do you have, a pentium 3???) and less than 1gb ram. AVG is the antivirus i use is great, get license codes on emule and all perfect.

Upgrading to Windows XP SP2 is highly recommended, but don't upgrade to SP3 yet because it's only in the beta stages so I've heard from MANY RELIABLE SOURCES. Also, you should only upgrade to Internet Explorer 7... don't upgrade to IE8 yet, because that's still a beta as well, and most likely still has some vulnerability issues to be worked out.
