I don't really mind Linux at all as I can manage my ipod via songbird(could not get itunes to work in wine) and the memory requirements are lower than Vista too.

If I try Vista on this computer all I'm gonna get is driver and memory problems. I plan on dual booting Vista and Ubuntu when I get my own laptop during this summer just to see what is supported and what is not on either OS.

best antivirus remover is --> ShadowProtect!!!

Actually, its not a virus remover, its a system restore software!
You just need to make a "shadow" of you "local disk C" drive when you feel like it
and then keep that shadow on another disk partition (i keep it on my "local disk D" drive)
So when you catch a nasty virus that forces you to re-format your whole PC,
you just need to boot your PC from "ShadowProtect" recovery CD
choose the "Restore" option
locate your "shadow" (in my case its on my "local disk D" drive)
then press "Start"
After 5 minutes it'll be done
Reboot you PC normally and BOOM!!!
Windows is back 100% clean in just 5 minutes!!!
CAn you do better than that???

Nan, I have just about everything I need backed up. I have multiple copies of Mugen stored on DVD's and I have a current copy of Mugen stored on my secondary HDD, so I'm good.

shinra I agree with basically everything your sayin on how to remove it but to go so far as to say any virus can be dealt with if you know what your doing is pretty brash... you'd have to be a damn windows genius for some of them. I'm MCSE certified, my friend Sean is a help technician for Microsoft, and there have been viruses we couldn't completely fix. Some viruses attack windows system files and if you don't know which ones your kinda screwed. They infect your registry and your system restore and your root boot directories, so in the case of one of them, I would go ahead and reformat. As long as you keep your stuff backed up its just an inconvenience, not a catastrophe.

Edit: I actually just bought a new computer because my old one got infected bad and I was too pissed and too lazy to fix it.  :D Ahhh ya... having money is nice.

There was once a virus at my job and it just the place down for two weeks, and I worked at the cable company It could have infected the entire city

but having a logical partition table deleted completely
leaving your Hard Disk with just your primary partition
is really weird!
I can't seem to figure out how a virus could do just that,,,, can't be,,,,

If it has full access to the admin accounts(like you logging into an a admin account making you more prone to virues) then yes it can.

It pays back good to have that 100 dollar 320GB external HDD that I have.

I have my normal mugen on my external HDD and the computer so I'm fine.

Toph, this new virus you mentioned. What were the symptoms again?

unable to delete infected file manually

unable to system restore beyond virus point of entry

unable to browse the web, every time you would go to a site, the virus would redirect you to random sites

disabled system updates

unable to uninstall faker program

unable to install windows XP, the virus makes your system thinks it's running Vista, so it won't allow a downgrade, so booting XP while in windows was impossible, had to go into bios and make PC boot from CD/CVD ROM drive

deleted desktop

unable to use right click

every time anti virus would find infected file and delete it, the virus would multiply

virus would write itself into multiple registry files

could not access any web browser except for IE (I use Firefox and it wouldn't open)

I think that's about it
