Game ideas I'm currently working on. (Non-Mugen)
« on: November 18, 2007, 06:49:00 PM »
After some thinking I've decided to take a break on Mugen. Mainly I'd like to work on developing some game ideas I've always wanted to do that aren't restricted to the "fighting game" genre.

Right now I'm starting with something basic in concept: I'm creating a Punch-Out clone. Here is footage on the engine I've constructed for it in only the past 3 weeks. Take note that ALL the artwork and sfx are place holder material made to get the engine running:

I plan to use ALL original artwork and sfx for this game, not the "South Park" style sprite edits and sfx (which are clearly me making goofy noises into a crappy microphone :-" ) you see in the video

I have mostly a good idea who the character cast will be and how the game will play, but I'm always open to outside brainstorming.

If this Punch-Out game goes well I'd like to follow it up with an old school, "Double Dragon" style beat-em-up game. Maybe I'm just being arrogant, but IMO the modern gaming industry doesn't have a clue how to make beat-em-up games anymore (usually trying to force fit a fighting game playing style into a beat-em-up game  :-&). I'd like to try to see if I can show them how to do it right  >:D

Viewtiful Joe was a really good beat-em-up.  :|

Anyways, what language are you making your game in? And are you just limiting yourself to making "old school homage" games?
It looks pretty good. Mind if I ask where you got the dev kit for this from?
You are now the final object of the 2538. Bring them together, and show us your smile.

Forgot about Viewtiful Joe. Heard the game was awesome but I was broke during that time and never really got to play it. I didn't think it qualified as a beat-em-up.

I'm not excluding myself to "old school homage" games, but at the moment I'm not sure what I'd be working on after my first 2 games. It'll be awhile till that point anyways.
