Marvel vs DC vs Snk vs Capcom
« on: November 14, 2012, 09:18:03 PM »
Hey everyone, I have a problem i currently need help with. I tried solving this issue myself, through FAQ, through trial and error and trying out different programs. Currently i'm trying to use the excellent screenpack made by Duracelleurs. It's a fantastic screenpack with custom portraits. The author of this screenpack has been gracious enough to provide portraits for so many characters of so many of our favorite games, but obviously, some characters' portraits have not been made for us. I've been trying to make portraits for characters such as Gentleman Ghost or Despero, using the portraits template but for some reason everytime i create one, the background isnt transparent. Now, i've tried using different programs to delete the backgrounds off the portrats i've made. Everytime i do it the background is still a solid color and it looks off in the character select screen. Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong here? I'm making the images pcx files, i'm deleteing the background. I've used paint.net, gimp, pixelmator but to no degree is it not working. I dont want to sound like a noob here, even though I am. i'm not looking for anyone to do the work for me, I want to learn fighter factory so i can make my own characters someday, but I just cant get this portrait thing down. If anyone is using this screenpack and making their own custom portraits, can I just get some basic guidelines on how to achieve the right portraits? I try to create them and I think i'm doing it right but when i load up my game, it's all wrong. Also, sometimes when I edit a characters portraits for this particular screenpck, example, Wolverine by Sander 71113, I replace the characters current portrait and it works fine in the select screen and vs. screen, but when in watch mode, the character behaves very strangely. As if, sprites are missing or the programing isn't correct, is this something I need to edit in the DEF? I didn't mean to write this much but after so many trial and errors i figured i'd just ask and hope for the best. Not trying to be annoying or anything and I'm sorry if I am, i Just have a couple of problems i need help rectifying. If there's anyone out there that can help me fix these two issues it would be greatly appreciated. I'm fairly new to Mugen and want to learn how to achieve what you all do so greatly. Thank you for any help you can provide and long live Mugen.

Deleting the backgrounds is not the key. It's making sure that the BG colour is colour 0 in the palette. This is probably easiest to do in GIMP. There are hundreds of tutorials on paletting a sprite. You need to follow one and you'll get the effect you want.
