Lucasfilm (Star Wars) is getting sold to Disney. They have already announced that in 2015 they will be making Episode 7.

First Marvel, now Lucasfilm, Disney is just going nuts. I have no clue what Ep7 will be, whether it will be the same as the books, or what. Mark Hamill/Harrison Ford sure won't be the right age for it .

Disney owning Lucasfilm wouldn't a bad thing. Marvel still functions as it always has, self centered, money grubbing, just has better management now. Most likely Disney is trying to save it from going under if this is the case just like Marvel. Lucas brand companies have been showing bad signs since 08 such as canceling of major games (Battlefront 3) Firing of project leaders (director of the Force Unleashed series) so it was likely to happen.
But if this is sold to Disney where does that leave Mr. Lucas himself?

I'm excited. Ever since Disney bought Pixar and brought John Lasiter into their team they have done everything great. The Marvel film studio is a great example.

But yes, I agree with thread's title... monopolies won't lead to anything good, they will have less reasons to make good stuff bigger they are - no one will able to compete with them... better to have many independent studios in capitalistic world, where money is the only thing that any companies cares(sadly it's natural to strive for monopoly, it's most profitable).

And if I remember correctly that wasn't the first time they cancelled Battlefront 3. I never really did like the way LF operated, things like banning Darth Vader (the guy who played him) always did bother me.

I was joking on Mark Hamill. There is no info on the movie I believe.

Monopolies don't exist for franchizes, monopolies would have to ba a required goods or services. Also Warner Bros has film studios, Harry Potter, DC and Looney Toons so Warner Bros are just as big as Disney, making neither a monopoly.
