Mugen creation rules ?
« on: November 29, 2008, 04:43:19 AM »
Hi ,

just a little question that is not getting a clear answered
in my mind ,
I know that if somebody want to make a character and ask the sprite rip author
or the creator of a character (and get a positive answer)
he can release his char and just got to credit the guy(s) ,
but some times I see in the News section :

X edited Y's char

So I wondered , where are the limits , what is considered stolen ,
what is not , is there someone (or a text sowhere) that can explain
all mugen rules ?

thanks by advance

It depends on the forum. To be honest I dont believe in any of the rules, but its best to adhere to them to avoid flame wars, and some of the more psychotic people in Mugen will try to hack, or send you viruses. Wonderful community huh?

Its best to ask permission whenever you can, if youre ripping from a game its not that big of a deal.

I was about to say that  ;D lol

Well , if I want to create a character like , hum , like Savage Hulk , and I use MG Murrow's Hulk ,
(with his permission) is the simple fact to replace all sprites by my own ripped sprites ,
using only CMD , CNS (all about coding in fact)
did this is considered like a "mugen creation" ,
a new mugen char in fact ,
I just want to know , because I am poor in coding , you know ,
and I never understand how to code all this ....

You have to ask him permission if he agrees, credit him . If he doesn t you can use use kong's hulk. Kong 's characters are open source. Credit konG too.

When asking permission tell the creator your plans (as above with the Hulk example).  You never know, they might offer to help out if your idea appeals to them (maybe code new moves for you or something).  Either way, you'll know if they're cool with what you're doing.

i'd like to take advantage of this thread to ask a related question, if i may.

Let's say i want to edit someone else's char. obviously i'll have to ask the creator permission. The bad news is that there seems to be no way to contact the creator, and also the creator has apparently been inactive for quite some time, and he's nowhere to be found. what can i do in this case if i really want to edit his char?

i hope i was clear
