Munky's Mugen Demise
« on: March 11, 2008, 05:37:40 PM »
 /:O  :-w \-/o  >:(

I ran AVG 7.5 on my laptop and it got rid of ALL my .exe files. I cannot run any program. I cant even run my PC recovery, FF, Mugen, Opera or anything. I always get the flashlight that searches for the file. The strange thing is AVG 7.5 opens and runs perfectly fine! Another strange thing is I ran the same exact program on my desktop and this didnt happen at all. Which is how Im making this post.

So, currently I am transferring all the stages & chars I can to memory sticks. Unfortunately, if there was a char with a DtoW file cannot be transferred b/c it was dubbed as a virus and placed in the "Virus Vault". On top of all this I cannot even run a windows setup b/c a few weeks back my cd drive suddenly vanished and dosnt recognize any discs.

On the bright side. I get to start over with mugen and I'll more than likely get a new/better laptop. That one was outdated anyway. On the other hand Im gonna have to request & search for the chars that I cant transfer. I got to keep all my stages though.

btw everyone, do yourselves a favor and do a search for all the DostoWin Files in your mugen folder and delete them all (except the one you keep around incase you DO need to convert a character from Dos to a WinMugen version.)

Thanx a lot. As of now Ive dropped from 522 chars to 110. I pretty much have everyone that I know for sure I want but one; the first release of MB-02. I cant remember the file name ~X(.

anyway, like i said I have everyone that I wanna keep. Well all the keepers I dont wanna search for again. The rest I know i can find.

~edit~

On Another Note. Im gonna end up loosing ALL the palettes I finished and havent released b/c I cant move them. Im officially out of external memory and ready to chuck my laptop.

That sux Rage. I think you and I may be in the same boat. At least until I find a suiting laptop. I dont wanna put mugen on my desktop, especially after that b/c its my home computer for everything else. I used my laptop for entertainment and it was fitted to my liking.

So, now the search begins & sales pitches r gonna b like :-@ I'll be :-j but looking like :|
I may just go to a pawn shop or used computer store now that i think about it.  :D

don't blame AVG, there are viruses that can spread to every .EXE file on your computer.

Holy sh*t! I know how that feels like, last weekend I lost like 50 % of my emu collection just because of a crappy CD.

Feel free to PM whenever you 're in need.

yeah, i dont blame them. Ive never had a problem with their previous applications so I guess Im just screwed atm

~In Other News~

I was told by another person that DL'd the software that if I uninstall it and afterwards keep the "Virus Vault" items instead, everything may be restored. But it would be at the cost of whatever infections I have. Same guy told me to just run a Windows Update and get the "Malisious Software Remover" and some other security updates. He did it and he's back to norm apparently. Couple other have posted the same results but all these ppl didnt have mugen, just the same EXE problem.

Imma try it [-O< if it works im movin on to MUGEN PLUS.

Feel free to PM whenever you 're in need.

See! This is why i stayed a member here. Ive gotten more help and assistance with mugen than anywhere else. More times at other forums/sites i see ppl just  :-?? or comment and never get answers for what they need help with.

Thanx Ryu#19 and anyone that is, will, has & might help me with mugen.

I can't stress this enough. Do like I did after my hard drive broke...get an external hard drive. You can a good one for about a hundred bucks(120 gigs at least) and it will hold all you mugen crap safely. If your drive crashes of you wanna run a cleaning program your safe. You got %%- y and didn't lose it all but some of us can't say the same thing. Even if you can't afford an external get a cheap jump drive and say all your stuff in rar format. That way it will hold more even if it's 2 gigs. By the vay 2 gig jumps run about twenty bucks. NO EXCUSES!

Thanks DG!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! :D

I got rid of AVG and kept the items in the "Virus Vault" then DL'd Malisious Software Remover & did some Windows Updates. Im gonna go get MUGEN+ now
 :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Only problem is I dont know at what cost I risk of keepin the stuff from AVG. But everything seems to be running smoother and better now.

I was about to be...

Don't know if they exist in Argentina yet. There are people who still don't know what a Blu-ray is.
