Who do you think is your best fighting game character from
2D Style
Can you move in and out? No? So its 2D 'style', even if it is MvC3, SSFIV, or even MK (2011).
3D Style
The opposite; Tekken, MK4-Armageddon, and games like that are here.
Base it kind of like if
perfect copies could be placed into MUGEN (or into an imaginary 3D version) and they were in a big super game. (in the case of some, especially SNK and Capcom chars, that can of course be tested as they do have
perfect ports, but some, like MK chars and newer version, etc cannot)
You can rank #1 and #2, and if you feel like it honorable mentions.
Try not to includes ridiculously cheap chars (not like Akuma-cheap, talking like Azazel from Tekken cheap)
Mine
2D1st Place
Harder choice than the 3D, but probably Wolverine (MvC). Even though others (Kung Lao, Ukyo, Vega) are my mains I think Wolverine from the first just had a lot of non-projectile range, that I was comfortable with. Plus rushdown. Lots of rage-causing, Hadouken! ending rushdown.
2nd Place
Kung Lao (MK9) falls to second only because his close up fighting isn't super-ultra deadly, but his distance fighting is awesome. That and I only fought as him briefly while I played a copy that wasn't mine.
Honorable Mentions
Other greats would be Ukyo (SS lets say...5?) Vega(SFII HD [always did better with him in 2 than in Alpha or IV) and X-23(MvC3)
3D1st Place
Kung Lao (Deadly Alliance) made that game a good sight easier. Using anyone else I struggled a bit, but again his range moves were saving. Only problem: No teleport!? At least Armageddon brought that back.
2nd Place
Hwaorang of Tekken 5 (6 or Tag 2 if I get them). If we go to war with N. Korea I hope he is from the South. Kick-kick kick-kick-kick kick-kick. PAUNCH! Only thing that made him go under KL is the fact that Tekken has (nearly) no projectile attacks, so they have a disadvantage in general from far away. Just difference in games really.
Honorable Mentions
Yoshimitsu (both SC IV and Tekken 5), Yamcha (DBZ game series in general), Talim and Kilik (SC II)
