Despero
« on: February 12, 2012, 01:06:07 PM »
I've decided to give my cyberbots project a pause and work on something else for a change.

This something is Despero, based on Justice League Task Force game (for Genesis). I knoe there is another Despero out there but it is based on JLTF for SNES and has totaly different graphic

first glance:
(click to show/hide)

I making him on CVG template, if any one's curious

what is done:
all moves,
all basic attacks and throws,
all hitstates,
1 special (3 variants), 1 hyper
2 winposes and some other minor things

what is left:
more specials, hypers
more winposes
intro anim
intro and ending
code tweeking

I was a big fan of the Sega JLTF game.

Always wanted to see this Despero see life.

I am always swamped, but if i can lend a hand, and help you program some things let me know.

There's no link in the first post to see the move or DL the character to test it or whatever it is you're referring to.

Ok... I finally managed to play some with your character... shading isn't quite capcom, but I admire the work you've put to the character. :)

I just have a silly tip that perhaps you've already considered... the third eye "optic blast"(?)... it could use a simple tweak... take a look at the Ultron edit by Prime-Op (link) and you'll understand what I mean. You can use this very same effect for guns, regardless of having an impressive sparks/effects pack.

You're right about that. I'm thinking of a palette contest, maby someone can fix this...
As for the second thing, we'll see, but I'm not Prime-Op and chances are whatever I'll do won't be nearly as good...

and yeah the stage in question is made by me. It's for red son, who is far from over, but I can share it in advance:

http://www.4shared.com/rar/-hcAaybV/moscow.html

just tell me what you think about it...

and a new wip version of Despero is out (link in the first post), has new winposes and a new hyper,

Feedback time:

Despero

PROS
- I see you are using my updated version of CVG template, because I've changed somethings from the original one (sparks, dust run effect, the hyper bg, the envshake when you use hard moves, etc). Was this released publically? I think yes, someone asked the template for me.

-One of the best comic char I ever played. You can see a hard work and caution in everymove (many of the comics chars looks as if they just slapped stuff together)

-QCB+f, the ones with giant hands, is a very cool move, and the fade just add even more quality to the move.

- the grab is very well done.

Cons

- QCF+P have a too heavy blur. You need to make it way lighter. And I think you should make it 2x bigger and use a 0.5, makes the sprites way better. I've made a tutorial about it some time ago, take a look http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=92866.msg816614#msg816614

Stage

PROS

- Nice sprites, nice composition.
- Nice use of parallax on the ground
- nice reflection

CONS

- The helicopter follows the players delta, which sounds strange. You can use a bgctrl to animated it
- the x delta of the objects is too big. The room don't have enough deepth to have that delta
- the same for the Y delta.  At the floor, its a big too big, but it works. But for the objects, they are moving too fast. And the same problem with the room size (se how much the guards slides if you compare them with the bg)

You are really getting my attention, buddy :)
Keep the good work!

I'm glad you like Despero, It's good to know something you've put much work in is worth something...

And thanks for the tutorial, it's going to prove useful for sure. Effects for the laser eve are temp, I've used preety much the first thing I've found on spriters resource from some creepy manga game...

As for the stage, It was kinda the idea for the heli to follow player... as for the rest, you have point, but I've preety much used numbers from mountainside temple. gonna experiment later ...

another thing: the hyper move, when connects, its okay. But when don't, it ends too abruptly

As for the second thing, we'll see, but I'm not Prime-Op and chances are whatever I'll do won't be nearly as good...

Intermission (a.k.a. Sei) has an amazing skill providing 'hybrid' palettes... (can't really explain this... perhaps as - a nice choice of colors that make sprites of different games more compatible, with minor or no extra pixel and/or shading tweak)

I don't know if you talked to her about a SFA3 portrait, but if you do, send her a sprite of despero, I'm sure she'll provide a good answer, and a great portrait.

Perhaps a nice start would be coloring the dark outline corner pixels in a darker tone.... i'll pm u if i ever manage to test this theory...

And yeah... none of us are Prime-op... but I'll check the Ultron sprite and Batzarro's Bane for some reference and try something too. :P

Ok... not trying to steal the spotlight or anything, I really don't care if it's a genesis, cvs or sf3 char... but this is a good opportunity to turn a character more compatible to capcom style projects around...

I've already sent before this tutorial to xxxXx, and he asked to post over here, so no drama, ok? :)

1. Get rid of lighter body color
2. Used Prime Op's Aquaman trident palette for belt and stuff
3. Minor edits to head, mostly forehead and fin
4. Take the darkest color of body and add some extra tone, mostly to inner pixels of the outline or following a curve, towards a more capcomish pillow shade.
5. Notice that we haven't touched the pants or boots darker tone (except for palette), but it would be nice to add the extra tone as well.

Another example is what I suggested Falkor for his GL kid sprite edit...

If you're seeing to make him more like a vs Capcom styled char, then I say yes.
