Is there a way to have 1P VS CPU in Versus mode?

I would like to be able to do 1P VS CPU in VS mode, where the CPU is P2.  This way, I can pick the exact CPU character and stage I would like to use.  How can I do this?  I am a noob at programing, so I am looking for a tool or patch that can be applied to MUGEN for this.  For now, all I can do to select both players' characters is via Watch mode (aka CPU VS CPU).  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

The only way I know to do this is to go to watch mode and select your character as P1 and whoever you want to fight against as P2. At the start of the first round, while the characters are doing their intros, hold cntrl and press the 1 key. This should give you control of P1. I've heard this doesn't work on some screenpacks, but it can't hurt to try.

You can also have a second screenpack with just the two characters you want and the one stage you want...or you can have a different screenpack where you can set the character you want to fight as the first in the order of fighting and have him assigned to that stage as default, but you would have to assign orders and stages to all characters in that screenpack...

You can do the same thing in vs mode, just hit the 2 key to turn p2 into a computer, or you can hit it again to turn it back to manual. Same with the number 1, and vs mode.
The trick also works in watch mode. I havnt tryed this with the new version of mugen they got out there now.

Thanks for the help everyone.  I really appreciate it!  I got it to work in Watch mode.  I didn't know that I could also do it in 2P VS mode.  I'm going to try doing it there too.  BTW, the last time I played Watch mode, I could change P1 from CPU to me (and vice-versa) even during the match.  For some strange reason, when I played it again, I could only swap between CPU and me during the intro in a match.  I'm not sure why it changed.  I also noticed that, in a Turns match, you have to press Ctrl+1 each time you play as a new character in the match.  Otherwise, the CPU is in control of P1 again.
