Hornetman (MVC style)
« on: June 27, 2009, 05:07:45 AM »
Yes, Hornetman from Megaman 9.  :)

I have his stance

and Light punch done.

Basicly, I'm gonna work on him when I'm not working on Onomatopiea. He's alot less stressfull to sprite, being a simple megaman Charecter.

Also: I need a Coder for Both Hornetman and Onomatopiea, I'm trying to learn on my own, but so far all I know how to do is make animations, Collision boxes and add sprites in fighter factory, so, helping would be nice.

Not too bad so far, but the honeycombs need work. You should use an official illustration as a reference.

I did.

In fact all the colours are FROM the official art.

The honeycombs were REALLY hard for me to pull off, so after my like 10th time, I just stuck with this I'm pretty happy with it, although I know it could be better, I have another honey comb design, but my brother said this was better.

Man , all this talk about Honeycombs is making me want some cereal :DxDie

You picked a tough character to create . But tell you the truth . Like rage said , just keep working at it . My Hobgoblin , I could release 12 different sprite versions . Medieval Spawn has been changed a number of times . What is the worst when you have 100 sprites made & then you make one that you like more . You have to go back & redo all the others to look like that one .  \-/o Been there , done that lol

Just keep at it

Armor needs to be bulkier imo.

okay, I have gotten alot of stuff done.

all the punchs, the crouch and the jump have been sprited.

I also changed the torso and light-punch.

I have added depth to the honeycombs, like here:

I also made a bulkier version, which is here (kinda rough, If I do make him like this it will be redone.):

the Bulkier one matches the 8-bit sprites more, but not the artwork, while the thinner one matches the art and not the sprites.

Which one is better, you guys think?

I'll be honest, I kind of prefer the skinnier one.  Also, looking at your stance, make sure the legs move in that stance too.  It looks kind of weird to have all of his body except for his lower half moving.

Looks good, though.  <3 Megaman characters.

Looks good so far. Maybe try making him a bit taller about by 2 or 3 pixels, as well as add some more colors that makes it so that it isn't 2 shades only, which can also make it easier if the black colors aren't mixed, so palletes are easier to make.

I've edited your sprite a bit, and edited it to be better in shading and colors. You should probably use this one instead. :)

Original size on the left, leg height edited by 2 pixels, as well as the pallete on the top left.

It's essential that you get the colors and shading right now before you get any further.

Also, I wish I would have seen this thread sooner. I would have adjusted your initial colors to help. Although I also think the honey combs should be a tad bigger, they do however make him look to bulky, so the 1st stance is fine. Like Manic, I also adjusted the colors and added/tweaked a couple things myself. Here's what I came up with along with the original Capcom artwork for comaprison..
