All Wii owners, download update 4.0 for you Wii and you can now play Virtual Console Games straight off your SD card! Great news for those of us who love to load their Wii with classic system games but have run out of hard drive space as well as the home brewers who want to run their larger items off of their Wii SD card.

This also means that once a development team gets working on it we can have Mugen on the Wii just like Xmugen for the Xbox.

All we need now is Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter HD, Street Fighter IV (and MvC2) on the Wii and we're set! Come on Capcom, get your butts in gear. Even Street Fighter HD could be downloadable content with the SD card acces working now!!

thats what im talking about. looks like the wii is gonna get more play now and those brawl textures will definitely be something i will do.

I've been running Virtual Console games off my SD card for awhile now . My Wii firmware is at 3.2 , because I blocked the updates .

BTW Acey , which game had that 4.0 update ? I will probably need something from it .

This is awesome and all, but doesn't mugen run on xbox by linux? You'd have to get linux running on the wii to run mugen. I don't know, but has linux been ported to the wii?

Also, are you sure wii can run games like Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter HD, Street Fighter IV ? As far as I know, these games are HD, and pretty big. I don't think the wii can run HD games, and even if it did, wouldn't that kind of defeat the purpose of HD since the wii can't put out HD graphics?

This update is official Nintendo stuff now, it's not realted to a specific game like Twilight Princess. No more need to block those firmware updates to maintain the old "play from SD card" hacks anymore. Although I'm sure any homebrew you might have running will need to be reinstalled following this update so it's a choice you'll have to decide on.

Linux, windows, which ever environment can be emulated for the Wii, at least disk space won't be a barrier anymore. As for HD games, sure the Wii does not have the graphic capability that the PS3 or 360 do, but if Capcom can take the Street Fighter II arcade game and port it successfully to the Super Nintendo without losing the game play, then I certaintly hope to see their line of fighting games on the Wii someday.

u might not see that as they would most likely rather put in on the bigger systems like ps3 and 360. which is why theres a 99 percent chance it just aint gonna happen. wiis controls would actually suck for fighting games such as that. so i mean thats another reason right there.

I have custom Guitar Hero games that I downloaded or put my own songs on . That will not run on the new firmware . that's why i block the updates . Higher than 3.2 those games won't play .

The Classic controller would be perfect for mugen . In my opinion the classic controller is one of the best controllers ever made . It works great for tatsunoko vs capcom , Samurai Showdown Collection , KOF etc ....

u and me both. now i can break out and play some goldeneye and battletoads...well i was already doing that thanks to homebrew channel. but still i agree its awesome. wii might get to play. i might even break out good ol sonic 2

........of course i did...been playing since the first one came out. classic controller would work for it but not everybody is going to wanna buy the classic controller just to play a game that should be playable with the default controller. i mean i already have a classic controller but im saying overall.

If you have virtual console games , then you should have a classic controller . Besides the thing is only $20 . Everyone should just buy one . There are

of Fighting game collections from SNK that came out for the Wii . All work with the classic controller .

Virtual Console Development (if you can call it that) is pretty cheap. Especially considering all the game is, is a ROM dump wrapped in a special file format with salting to bind the game to a specific Wii.

There isn't any reason not to distribute old games especially when there is no distribution costs.

with the twilight hack all you need is twlight princess and an emulator which you can find anyway that were made specifically for the wii and you can play all your old games that way. I was playing MK64 yesterday.....Peachy is my fav.

Like DT said, I kept my firmware at 3.2 and the news Acey started is actually very old.

Not to mention my Wii is soft modded and can play backups
