Soft modding ... yes hard modding....no. I flashed a hacked firmware onto my Xbox360 Hitachi disk drive. It was easy as hell and now I can play burnt games. But hard modding, no ill never do that as long as people keep releasing updated versions of hacked firmware.

So with the soft modding is that sticking in a "special disk" into your drive, ejecting it, and inserting in the burnt game? What about Xbox Live security patches?

Thanks DG!

My 360 can play burnt games as well. My dad paid someone to do it. *shrugs*

for the disk question... no it is in the firmware. you flash it (basically install it) to your disk drive. It takes about 20 minutes I did it with nps. Like I said its easy as hell was the first time ive ever done something like that and it was a breeze. Just print out a tutorial and remember research alot of sites before you go thru with it. I dont wanna be blamed if you (will be rare if u follow everything to the key) mess your drive up and have to buy a new one. The worst case scenario is u will have to buy another drive off the internet. But make sure if you decide to do it, make a backup of the original firmware and put it on a CD or Floppy disk.

On the part about xbox live. Ive heard there are more recent versions that coupled with a good Kreon rip(name of the drive usually used to make internet pirated versions of the games) and check it with some software (can find on any tut site or anywhere on the net) will yeild a perfect stealth drive. But again if for some reason it does not become fully stealthed I do not want to be held responsible if you get banned from xbox live(which can happen at anytime if MS gets smarter). I have a very old version of the firmware so I dont get on xboxlive with my games.

If you want sites or anything like that for the firmware and also a really good site for getting games that only requires a rapidshare account, PM me. I will not discuss anything further in this thread about pirated material or name of the sites. Also you can buy a already modded drive off a couple of sites(I dont know which google it) and then just take the case off the 360 and hook it up.

The flashing also requires a computer and more then one serial ATA cable. Hope this helps, PM me if you need any indepth information.

turning on the system is not a risk. yes there is a small % that u could get the RROD. But Ive already had that once so I sent my 360 off to MS and got it repaired(before I modded it) so its been 2 years and no problems so far. *Knocks on wood*

I agree with bloodninja as I have my 60GB PS3 for nearly a year now and its running like new so far. The only problem I had was related to the Army Of Two game(my bro rented it) when I had finger prints on it without purpose and ended up freezing with the finger prints as the ps3 has a smaller blue ray.

That "risk" is the system itself. The actual mod does not cause RRD.

I only made the comment because of the systems bad reputation and when you get it turning it on could cause you to get RRD. I believe it was a manufaturing issue where a chip on the system wasn't soldered right.

Systems after November 07' have been fixed according to Microsoft.

If you buy an 08 manufactured system....your good to go  :)

I sold my P.O.S 06 360 and bought an new 2008 elite

It sounds quieter and the Ben-Q disc drive is really smooth and can read scratched discs

Eh all consoles improve in hardware or software each year. The PS3 is very hard to mod as it is based on Linux; Though I don't want to mod it as I got everything that I need and some features that I don't even use like the chat room as I don't have one of the PS3 eye's.

Blood what I meant is turning on the system itself was not really the risk. The risk came from a hardware issue so if you turned it on once or 10 times a day did not matter. If it was a problematic system(incorrect manufacturing) it would break wether you had it on 24/7 or you just turned it on. I went thru it once and havent since. I guess if I dont make sense then ill just leave the topic, but its hard to explain. Hope everyone understands I cant think of a way right now to make it any easier.

Modding a 360 is illegal , Microsoft frowns upon it & against gamestop policies . So I would never do such a thing  :-"  ;D

My 360 has the Samsung drive . I've had it for about 2 years . It works sweet & no red light of doom .
