New Lex Luthor beta released

In case y'all hadn't seen it yet. I don't visit over here very often, but I could use more eyes on this guy ==> means better/more feedback that way. ;)





As I promised earlier in the week on my blog, here's the latest Lex Luthor update. He has all the following updates over the alpha release from last January:

- 27 Sep 2008: Beta 1b
  - fixed bug in Failsafe Emission
  - added air version of Failsafe Emission (& you can can combo into it!)
  - lots of minor bugfixes and combo tweaks throughout
  - added Special: Tyrant Drill
  - added shocked, frozen special anims

- 25 Sep 2008: Beta 1
  - tweaked Special: Stiletto Blade (it's now an expansion-type move, for one thing)
  - added Special: Electrified Armor
  - added Hyper: Failsafe Emission
  - added Hyper: Nanite Swarm
  - added fwd/back dashes
  - added new sound effects, voices, and effect sparks

All in all, he's a much more solid character than he was before: 4 specials, 2 hypers, pretty decent AI, etc. Still quite a bit more we plan to do with him before he's done, but I felt like I needed to get him out there for all y'all to start playing with. Enjoy, post any feedback/ bug reports here.

Beta 1 had the same time as my birthday... :D
I'll test him out now that Lex reached beta release once i get home tomorrow...agains,congratulations and keep up the good job! :)

Buyog i hear u have been looking for more ideas for your lex, well u have come to the right place, i have in the past made two hyper moves for your lex and, and i want to show them to u and everybody here at IMT

First off guys i will show you,
The Krytonic Blast

This was the first move i made for Buyog's Lex, it uses the same beam as the classic shinku hadoken from the mvc ryu but instead of many hits it just one big blast
and it knocks you to the side of the screen too

I needed a projectile hyper,and this is what had came to mind.... it's one of the first hypers i have ever done for mugen too...

Now we move along to my next hyper i made for Buyog's Lex, its called
The Tyrant Finisher

Its basically where Lex charges at you with all of his might and keeps hitting u in your gut, hard as he possibly can like 4 times, and then time freezes and he laughs and then he hits you one more time, but this time its with a big uppercut that sends you flying into the air.... See why i call it The Tyrant Finisher

Now guys these moves r not in buyog's beta, only in mine, and well i am here to ask, buyog would u consider adding these moves to your characters.... I hope u will cus whatever u end up with when u get finshed with him im still gonan have those hypers added into my own personal version of your lex

If u guys want it, then tell buyog to add them in

That looks terrific Race. You should go over and register at Scruffy D (if you haven't already..) and PM him this also. As for everyone else... post feedback on Lex in this thread so Buyog can fix the bugs.  :)

And it sounds like Buyog is looking for some strong beta testing so he can get closer to the final release. Let's make sure he's not disapointed.

Well I did find something weird.
If you back the enemy into a corner, you can use the hardpunch to launch them, and then when they fall you can time it so you can combo with the hard punch forever, it kills Wonder Woman by the 11th hit but i can personaly get it to go 40 times before axidently let her drop.

Lex is a tough one to be origional with since he's a master manipulator opposed to a combatant. Since his power Gauntlets are massively powerful I'd recommed using a couple of differant colored rays that have some differant P2 state effects to simulate the differant Kryptonite colored energy blasts.

I personally wouldnt bring that up, and Im sure he knows about Kang Anals sloppy Mr Freeze palette swap. Open Source or not somebodys always going to edit something and trade it around. I'm sure buyog is more concerned with perfecting and creating quality characters than worry about some guy screwing around on the net.

congrats on the release .. i like it very much :O*D
here is my beta testing report

1-his Tyrant Drill can be infinite if he hit the enemy while the enemy is in the air, i can keep repeating the move and hit the enemy every time preventing the enemy from falling.

2-if you do a forward dash then cancel it into a jump the the nitro sparks that comes from behind his foots in the forward dash is still showing while he jumps and the nitro spark that supposed to come out from his foot while jumping is not there..i think it's an explode binding thing

3-when the Kryptonite Ray hits the enemy the hit and fall timing seem a bit delayed and slow, the enemy seem like he faking being hit lol same goes if the enemy gets hit by it while in the air.

4-his forward dash is a bit slow for a dash

5-if you try launching the enemy using close hp then hitting him using Kryptonite Ray while the enemy is falling from being launched, the enemy will not look effected by the hit of the Kryptonite Ray..custom gethit thing i think

6-when Failsafe Emission is finished hitting the enemy while the enemy on ground it leaves the enemy in landing recovery like stat...my guess it's cus it dosen't make the enemy fall but maybe the hitdef has a y = - something in ground velocity trigger....i haven't looked btw so that's just a guess.

7-aerial rave combo is a bit hard to perfect.


i have some smee small suggestions
1-the guy is in an armor suite so maybe some hit shakes will be good for the looks
2-some metal hit and get sounds will be good too
3-maybe making the combo chaining a bit easier cus it requires to be a bit fast to press the buttons right now.

well, after downloading the character and giving him a test run, I"ve founded a bug in the AI right off the bat, in round 1 before the fight even begins, he ATTACKS you before the fight even starts! but over all, he is a decent challange. (I waited until he was updated to around a beta stage,)

I'm just happy he's so far long... all the basics, 3 specials, 2 hypers... and you're still moving forward with Lex. Coupled together with Wucah's stage this is a great addition to the DCvM project! Yeah!

My favorite parts are the animtions, especially the details on the intro.

thanks. and other stuff that could make this character better opponent is to fix up the timing he does his Failsafe Emission super move, sometimes he does it for no reasion and it leaves him wide open for an attack once he's done. (remembers my test drive with my edited voicepack for MSdensky's Link.)

Ok, I first I thought it was just me, but now I'm not sure.

Whenever I try out Buyog's characters, they seem really stiff and unresponsive (inability to combo, rigid special commands, etc) till I run them through with Dos2Win, sans the .sff file of course. Is there something wrong with my mugen.exe or what?

I know what you're talking about. Actually this is what has always made Buyog one of my favorite creators. The thing is that with Strong Guy, Lobo, Ice, etc... Buyog didn't over power them like the rest of us did. He characters combo in a maner very acurate to the real MvC style and does less damage than many of the newer characters these days. Infinity's EoH characters tend to use a combo system based off of MvC2 Guile's which makes comboing more user friendly all though we still use those traditionally low damanges to increase the length of matches. These days you'll find many new characters who can combo in just about any combination and do alot of damage. One example is Deadpool who combos very easily, does a larger amount of damage and can even connect certain standing attack you while you crouch block. Notice if you pull our your old copy of MvC, none of the characters combo nearly as easily as mugen characters do nowadays.(except button mashing Wolverine and Cyclops) You have to learn the characters combos and use them properly. This is the same way with Buyog's stuff.

Yeah, I may be in the minority with this, but I like the older, more skill-oriented games in the Marvel Vs series. X-Men vs Street Fighter is probably my fave, and Marvel vs Capcom (1) is a close second. MvC2 annoyed the heck out of me. All "sound & fury," if you will.

Plus I keep my mugen difficulty cranked up all the way, and the speed on fast 1. So your mileage may vary with different settings...  8)

i usually test on speed 3 cus it's the speed that my brother plays on..lex did seem a bit slow on speed 3
but i figured that it was intended.

Besides from the already mentioned HP infinite in the corner, I couldn't find any more glitches on the fast play through I gave him.
However you should consider giving his Failsafe Emission properties of MvC Chun Li's Kikousho (i.e. being shielded from projectiles and beams)

I can only focus on one character at a time if I want to ever actually finish them. ;)

R@CE: They're both in the vid, I think. Both are mostly done, although they might get tweaked a bit more.

IStallion: heh, I know... I've got a couple of portrait submissions I may use instead of that placeholder, but they're not in the right style at the moment.  :-??

CapCold: well, there's the Kryptonite Ray, of course. And I thought I might add a kryptonite knife to his melee hyper when fighting Supes...  XD||
