« on: January 02, 2009, 12:44:40 PM »
I'm trying to find out the best way

to protect my investments against damage caused by children
scratches
or by frequent use....

are ps2 games copy protected like dvd movies are?
if so how to bypass the...?
should i burn at a low speed like 1x or 2x or 4x?

Burn it slow.  1x is the best.  And use Sony or Fuji film dvd-r.  The ps2 games arent copy protected, well none that ive copied.

im gathering just like with xbox 360 iso's which also use the .dvd format so you can correctly burn it use Img Burn or Clone CD. I have never done a PS2 game so I dont know if it comes with a .dvd. If it does then burn the .dvd and not the ISO or you will mess the burn up 100% of the time. If it does not have any other format besides the iso then google PS2 disk burning tutorial on google.

use a program called delta. make sure u get the ps2 version. they have an option called reflect. put the cd in your pc then choose reflect then watch it burn by sectors. yes it takes a min but you get everything into a perfect copy.

If you have your system modded , you can just use Prassi/Record Now . Make a Global Image & then burn it

Just like the PS1 , the drives in the PS2 are garbage . Each drive seems to like a certain type of blank media . What never failed me on the PS1 & has never failed me for any PS2 is Verbatim's .

Sony did come up with a copy protection later on . They only used it on select games .
Maybe Kingdom Hearts was the first .  Anyway it's pretty strange , but things will actually disappear in the games with this protection . Say you need a chest with a key in it . That may not be there , so you can never beat the game . Strange stuff .

Anyway there is a way to rip those games so that won't happen . But I never got involved with it . I didn't want to figure out which games I had to rip one way & which I had to just copy . Back in the PS1 or Dreamcast days , I would've been totally about it . But now , I don't have the time or patience for it .  I leave it to the pros & just download the iso's off the newsgroups .

verbatim's rule only thing that I use with my xbox360. They are more expensive but def worth it. So I do advise everyone to invest in them.

its very easy:

Use Alchool 120% to make a backup. It will copy every sector of the game, and it will be burned again for sure.

To burn again, you can use Alchool to burn it (its have a PS2 setting to burn) or use DVDecrypter , its a small free and woderful software.

I burn all my PS2 games at 4 to 8x speed , as long as you use good media , you shouldn't have a problem .

Alcohol will not even copy those games correctly that I was talking about with that strange copy protection . Some hacker made a program to rip them .

if you use sensor blocking * <_<|google|* you can swap a ps2 disc with a backup and play it that way.
