My era of being great at Yu Gi Oh was all about speed. Half the time I would get the dragon out turn two, blow up everything & yata lock them. My decks were always built faster than anyone elses & I played them better.

Speaking of which I just found my Yu Gi Oh championship trophy. It's pretty cool, I'll have to take some pics of it & post them. Floating pyramid, glass case,  blah blah blah  lol

I'm so glad yata was banned he was the most broken card in history. lol i have a trophy just like that as well it's just a matter of finding it.

Yata was the most amazing card ever made. Who could think a 200 attack monster could be so broken...lol

I don't know, hand control was pretty slow. It's not like you could just bring out yata & it was over. There was a definite strategy involving playing that deck. I liked that era a lot also. I mean anyone with half a brain at the big tournaments was running hand destruction. It was whoever played the deck better that won.

They banned or restricted all those cards after that. Drop off, Time seal , forceful sentry, confiscation. At the time it didn't really matter, since the envoys were still running around....lol

drop off was never banned iirc, but Time Seal and specially Sentry and Confiscation are banned. The latter two not only gave hand advantage, they allowed you to know your opponent's hand and predict the next plays
Trap Dustshoot is a nerfed Forceful Sentry,as it's a trap and opponent need 4 cards in hand to use it,but it still very broken when comboed with Mind Crush

Bump...new format and a couple of decks surprised everyone in the last SJC tournament of the format.
A Gradius Space Fighter deck and an X-Saber deck(that ended up third place) were the highlights of the top 16,specially because i have almost everything to build those decks(i lack a few stuff from the X-Saber deck)

yep
On a side note,i'm completely shocked at the price of XX-Saber Emmersblade has reached this past weekend...nobody on their right mind would pay around 90/100 dollars for a recruiter of the likes of Nova Summoner or Pyramid Turtle(i was able to get one last sunday at around u$s 50,which is a lot for a piece of cardboard. My currency is pretty close to 1 dollar=4 pesos so you get the idea)

How much money to do pay for regular booster packs?Over here in Argentina everything is pretty expensive due to currency,to the point that we have to pay almost twice for Tins,Packs and even Regionals to that amount(around 30 dollars at registering, even by getting 5 packs is not worth it)

This deck has a value of 800 dollars o.O but i made it with 150 bucks. (craiglist)

It's tournament ready i won a local tournament today at a local comic book shop, and i'm 17-2 so far both loses to other light sworn decks.

I've swept the blackwings meaning i never lost one duel in a best two out of three 6-0 and i'm 3-0 against glads.

Yeah I am so done with paying all kinds of money for pieces of cardboard to win tournaments only to say i am better than someone. Because that's all you get out of it. The money/prizes you win never equals out to the cash you shell out buying new cards. In order to stay on top you have to keep getting the new stuff & building the newest decks. It's just not worth it to me anymore

then, you can have fun buying 3 copies of the latest structure deck released,Machina Mayhem
Structure decks over there in US cost 10 bucks,so you can technically make a decent deck for 30/40 dollars(maybe a little more if you add some staples like Mirror Force,Solemn Judgment, etc) as the core cards are in there
I'm planning on getting the stuff to build the Machina Gadgets deck as soon as i get one copy of the deck(i have most of the common stuff already, spare Gadgets don't hurt at all)
Some decks are being able to resist time, two of them are Gladiator Beast and Gadgets

I still have all my old cards. So I wouldn't have to buy Mirror force, Solemn judgement, or any of the old staples that aren't banned. But is that machine gadget deck really worthy of hard core tournament play?
