How will each week's theme be picked? Will the winner get to pick? Will it be descuessed turring voting?

a week is more than enough time for a single sprite.

as far as themes, theres a ton you could go with. "best original marvel sprite", "Best edit using ___ as a base", etc.

I think that I do not want to start that many thread every week . So no voting on the theme , since daniel_p  & I are starting this thing , we will decide .

I will take suggestions via PM for themes after the first week . If this goes through . The first week is already themed . it will be fun .

What I will do is check with the admins here , if they don't mind it . I will do that thread idea . I just don't want them to feel like this section is being totally cluttered with sprite of the week threads all over the place .

A "sprite of the week" is way too easy...but fun nonetheless. In all honesty, I'd much rather have something like a "stance animation of the week."

I know for a fact that DT is a very inclusive dude when in comes to projects of this nature, and that in that spirit you guys thought about this contest, my question is, would there be something more challenging for people with more experience in the arts of photshops? something regarding animation, perhaps?

Anyway, I'm totally down with this contest! Let what must be done, be done.

Not necacarly, heck you could have a smooth animation but the sprites them selfs could look like bantha fodder.

I am trying to make this contest for all to enjoy . I don't want to alienate anyone .  Say for example a new spriter can come in & make a sprite & it will be a learning experience possibly . This comp could develop anyone into a better spriter & possibly even have a few WIPS started out of it . Most new spriters do not animate well . So it wouldn't be fun for them .

I did say once in awhile it will be an animation comp . Then anyone who can't animate will try to use it as a learning experience or sit out that week . I know that I can't animate , so I will not enter that week

Maybe one week it will be an animation contest of original moves for my Medieval Spawn WIP  . Yeah , then I will use them   

That's a joke everyone . I will not use this competition for my own advantage . 

Anyway , I think you get where I am trying to go with this at first . I just want it to be fun .

It would be nice if you could have a '... of the Week/Contests' sub-board in Graphic arts for contests.

I kind of think the sprite stuff belongs here . The sigs & things belong in that sub forum . The two are different types of work & don't need to crossover .

THE rules  should be these:
1. Edits have to be mugen sized
2. no background
3. only one sprite by artist( we prefer quality to quantity  )
4. do not use an edit from someone else.
5. add a comment if your edit is open source. (believe me you should  )
6. fun edits are allowed ( let's say the contest is superman and you do superman in a spiderman suit  )
7. You have one week to post, then the contest from all edits will start the next week.

The characters to do should be the big stars from company first:
WEEK 1: Superman (DC)
WEEK 2: Spiderman( Marvel)
WEEK  3: Spawn (Image, dark horse, aspen, ...)
WEEK 4: San goku (manga characters)
WEEK 5: MARIO BROS (video games characters)

that s my two cents.
