I don't know if anyone has tried this before , but daniel_p & I are going to try do do this if you like this idea .

What do all of you think about having a sprite of week contest ?

There will not be many rules . It does have to be original , but can be an edit of something as long as work was put into it . It can not be someone's already existing sprite on the net , it has to be your work .

If you vote for this . Should it be just any sprite ? Or should daniel_p & I pick a theme or character each week ?

For example one week it may be any anime character theme . The next could specifically be Batman . There's a whole universe of things we could have it be from week to week .

Your comments on all this ?

agreed youd get more participants im sure if its just anything instead of themes but its up to you guys

Yeah , but we will get to see everyone's vision of how it would be sprited . Like for example batzarro , sprites a batman & I do also . ( Which we've done BTW )

His looked more MVC using Guile as a base & mine was more like he was drawn by Jim Lee in the comics . It would be cool to see everyone's perception of him .

Like I mentioned we could just have it this week is any Marvel character . But once a month narrow it down to one specific character . This way that one single week you'll have to work on something specific , instead of pulling something from your sprite archive & submitting it .

i have been thinking this for awhile now is the perfect opertunity how about see who can make the best suave guy? i always wondered how hed look mugenized heck i wish someone would finally make him so kung fu man can save his girlfriend

The poll has to go on for a few days before I decide if we even do this . If enough people vote yes & there is interest it will start up soon . Everyone will have roughly 6 days to submit their entry .

i dont like the ideia, i dont see the point to make one sprite if u dont want to wip him,
maybe u should create the "Wip of the Month"....

I was just in talks of doing this at another fourm and we were thinking about it.
Might not happen there now that you got to it first

, but you never know, cuz we were thinking of having a private judges pannel scoring based on a few factors.

Ever week should have a general theme. If you pick batman, it should limit it to anything within the batman mythos. Or even elseworlds batmen.
You should decide right away weather or not animations should be alloud.
I also think that as a rule, the backgrounds should be transparent but thats only because leaving backgrounds on it bugs the bageebers out of me.

But yes I will particapate.

but on the other hand, it can help those just starting out spriting get some practice ya know

and these sprites can turn into wips... I voted Yes

People have been making sprites of stuff long before mugen. Heck I was making sprites 10 years ago just to get ideas out of my head cuz it was easyer then drawing, then ide use them in chatrooms and show them off.

Also I think its a great idea to pratice ones skills, and to give some people an excuse to try making something they havnt yet.

I love the idea, and I really think it would be kinda fun (and heck maybe I might get a few sprites to add to some avys

but of course I would ask the spriter if I can before I would use it

WIP of the month would be to hard to pull off . I would have to make up too many guidelines . Like in order for a submission to be valid , there has to be a vid , the characters stance has to be sprited , he has to have all his basic punches done & at least one special move . Or whatever , something similar to that .

This will just be a fun little competition where all members can join in . There's

of guys who can sprite but will probably never make a full character . Because it does take

of time , hard work & dedication . So no spriter or even a fan who wants to give spriting a shot will be left out of this comp .

if you think about it the suave guy theme would be a good idea i mean its like everyone forgets about him and elecbyte assumed someone would make him heck just a sprite would do justice

BTW Mew if it is the forum I am thinking of . There's not enough members there . Easier to have it here in my opinion

If people want to actually animate their sprites . More power to them . That will be allowed .

But maybe one week out of 3 months , It will be a character with an animated stance or whatever . So you may not want to animate everything .

One main rule I will have is that any contestant , FOR ANY REASON , Says ANYTHING bad , about another participant or his entry . Their submission will be automatically disqualified . NO EXCEPTIONS . The fans can say what they want . But the vote thread is not going to be six pages of participents dogging someone else or their work for no apparent reason , like this past sig of the week competition was .

Hold on , you couldn't get one sprite done in 6 days ? I'm slow as molasses when it comes to spriting & I could do it .

i'd also like to add that entries be pm'd to darktalbain and he can update the first post with the entries and number them or something so they can be anonymous
just so no one's vote'll be biased

Depends on how ambitious people are and methods/level of detail being used along with the contest theme.
Also depends on what a person has for free time.

Biweekly would be better, and I would think would be sufficient.

Depending on what im doing, i can do a sprite in a day. A week isnt that long, and it gives you penty of time to make one.

But yeah, defently need themes.

wat a cool idea man, i would def. play!

1 sprite doesnt take 6 days unless u animate n hi-res or so.

theres so many options

DC
MARVEL
IMAGE
DARK HORSE
WILD STORM
MANGA

n it doesnt just have 2 b comics

MOVIES
MUSIC
LITERATURE
POLITICS
CARTOONS
TV SHOWS

unlimited options really

maybe the winners could choose the next category, or they could get points n recognition or a foot massage or so

this could help trigger WIPS if ppl come out wit the right bases n formulas
