(POLL) Software For Sprites Editing - Which One Is Better?
« on: March 20, 2009, 08:24:22 PM »
Hi Everyone!

I started This Topic, Because I want To Know, about the programs that you use for editing, since I'm new at this, I want to discuss Our favorite Image Editing Software for Mugen.

I Made My First Edit Using Microsoft Paint 5.1,
I'm trying To Use GIMP 2.6.5, But I Still Don't Know How To use it.

I Want To Use Photoshop, But It Seems Too Hard To Understand For Me.

Which Software Would You recomend For a Newbie?

Photoshop, in my opinion, is not the best for sprite editing.. unless you're trying to add glowing effects.. or trying to increase the quality of something such as a hadouken wave... For character sprites.. I recommend sticking with paint. :)

For a year i have been using paint and i never had a problem.

It depends on the sprites that you are making.

I like photoshop because if you want to change something up you did 5 minutes ago . You can go back in the history to find it .

are you guys talking bout paint that comes with windows or paint shop bro?
anyway paint shop bro and photo shop are the most advanced while gimp is the most suitable for sprites and mugen.

You'll be best of with the one you are more familiar with. Remember, the software doesn't make the spriter, his/her skills do. I've seen so many people do great sprites with both paint and photoshop.

i cant beleve still that anyone uses that crappy paint program that comes with the computer.

whenever you select an area, the background moves with you, it totaly prevents frakenspriting.

Gimp is free, totaly free, and susposted to be just as good as photoshop, just layed out differntly.

I use gimp its simple and easy and has lots of good tools.

My sprite editing tutoral videos show how I use gimp to edit sprites.

There is ways to frankensprite with MSpaint . Someone has a tutorial up on youtube . It's just so much more complicated than with other programs . Photoshop I can have as many files open as I want & just drag the things I need . Ms paint you have to copy , then close that window , & open the new one& paste into it .  Too much of a hassle for me . The program just seems so dated . I have a virtual console art program for the Wii that you can do more than MS paint lol .

You guys should try out other programs like gimp. Its so simple and yet you can do so much more with it then paint without the trouble paint gives out.

I dont know, After almost 10 years using the same program, You kinda get used to it.
I can frankensprite with it, I can do what I want with it, but why are Photoshop and Gimp better programs?
I used Photoshop CS3 some time ago (for some days) but I cant even fill something in because it then fills for example: a whole leg instead of just a "shading"
(50 minutes wasted downloading the full ......)

Why? Because it's so simple to use and it's awesome at "fast" sprite editing, it's so basic though but who cares?  :-??
