Spider-Woman, Gwen Stacy
« on: June 18, 2014, 11:44:54 PM »
Hello, I'm working on making a sprite sheet for the Gwen Stacy version of Spider-Woman that's going to be featured in Edge of Spider-Verse #2 this fall. I've found a lot of good bases from the Power Rangers games on snes. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on using a sheet for a BOR character or knew of any Spidey or similar characters that could be re-purposed for Gwen.

Here's the sheet so far, including another sprite I made for fun and to keep for its palette.

This would mostly just be for practice/ trying to improve myself, but advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

I might consider using those, but I feel that Kimberly, Aisha and Trini's movements work better for how Gwen would probably fight. More limber and agile with less focus on hard hitting. A bit more focused on movement than Peter's already acrobat fighting style. She wouldn't have the formal training that say Jessica Drew or Julia Carpenter would have. She's rely on athletics she already knows plus basic instinct. Her Spider-Woman comic isn't out yet, so we don't know for sure how she'll move, I'm going more off of what I know about Gwen Stacy in particular. But I'll take some of these into consideration for other moves.

An update on the sheet so far. I'm starting to convert some of the sprites that will be used for multiple actions like her web shot/pull,  standing on crouching. I've thought out her basic moves which will be a two punch combo and a three kick combo. I'm not sure about making a separate throw from the web pull. Her other moves will be two jump kicks and one jump punch. Along with a web swing. I was thinking for two specials, she could have a move where she jumps and web pulls two enemies or objects and pulls them toward each other, slamming them into one another. Her second special would be a somersault kick.

Nah, it's just a personal project. I'm basing it off of an upcoming comic where Gwen Stacy is bitten by the spider instead of Peter. I was thinking maybe once it's done, I could either try to make a short game on my own (though it would probably suck since I can't program for crap.) or asking if anyone would be interested in helping me to make a short game to show off this version of the character.
Here's a better look at the costume drawn by Robbi Rodriguez.

I mean, blue and red aren't really stealth colors either.

Depends on the shade.

Don't get me wrong, I like the design. But white won't work. However, that's where pallets come into play eh?

What do you need to make this happen?

I plan to stick off white for now since that's the only design that's out now.  But after I'm done with the sheet, I'd like to make a short game with the sheet as a sort of promotional piece to help boost interest for the comic from Marvel. I can finish the sheet, but I have no programming skills and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping to make a game. It would probably be just one level with one boss. And then if people like that and maybe after the comic is out, there could be more added to the game later.

About half way done with the sheet so far. Probably gonna be a while between work and just generally having other stuff to do.

Question, why not have a more spider like symbol on her back? it looks more lightning then spider. If it has the same color as the feet, that would be cool.

The design in the artwork that I'm referencing has the spider draped over her head and torso so the spider head and legs look like they are wrapping around her. The size of the sprites probably don't show it in that great of detail since they are mostly from the side view. I want to try matching it first before making any significant changes.

Is anyone familiar with using Nearest Neighbor in Photoshop? I need a few sprites to edit from a Spider-Man sheet, but I'd have to resize the entire sheet so it'll match up with Gwen. Here's an example of the difference in sizes. If it can't be done, that's fine. I just had some ideas for a few extra sprites I might use, but I don't really need them as of yet.

Another update. Got most of the web stuff done. Just a few more rows of sprites left.

Why not use MSPaint? The sprites are so small, the difficulty factor has to be very low.

I would need them to be a very specific size. Going from 100 % to 50 % with the Spider-Man sprites makes them a little bit too small. I'd need it to be as accurate as possible, something that would be a lot easier in photoshop. Unfortunately I don't have it or the right experience using it. Though at this point, I probably won't need the sprites since I'm almost done with what I have so far.

About 95% done with the sheet. Still looking for people to help program a short demo. I'm thinking of asking a friend to do some voice lines for her.

Decided to just stick with what I have at the moment for the sheet. As for a game idea. I was thinking about a short demo thing where she fights six villains, one after another. If anyone is interested in helping out, I would be grateful, cause I have no idea how to program a game.

She is actually. Originally I just wanted to make a short game to show the guy who's writing the official comic, but after talking to Oillusionista, he offered to put Gwen in the game. Which I'm super happy about.

Made this a little while ago. After reading the comic, I made some samples for possible enemies/bosses if anyone ever made a Gwen!Spidey game. I made a cop sprite, a sprite based on this comic's version of the Rhino, Peter!Lizard, and a reptile rat that could be the enemy in Peter's level.
