Anyone using Vista want to recover memory?
« on: September 18, 2009, 11:26:19 AM »
Has anyone that is using Vista wondering how the heck so much memory is being wasted when you are only using a few programs? For example having a 500GB Hard drive then only downloading 2GB of programs then over time you see your computer say you have something like 385 or 400 and something GB of space left and you know you didn't downlod that large GB worth of stuff. Well you may want to look into disk cleanup because it is about the best way to get rid of a LOT of stuff. I know just about everyone here knows this but its just a good idea to go to disk cleanup because most likely most of your memory is being eaten up by the CPU creating restore points and creating shadow restore points. Thing is you can delete all your restore points and save the most recent one to save a TON of space. I have a 750GB hard drive and I had 130 GB of space being used by restore points alone and now I have nearly full memory again since I put all my programs and such on my external hard drive.

Thats another part of regular maintenance m8. Clean all system restore points and make a fresh one, clean all temp data like offline cache, temp internet files, regular temp files, and everything else. Just use ATF cleaner or CC cleaner to get everything done except for restore point. That you have to create yourself but it is not hard to do.

EDIT: BTW Memory and HDD space are 2 totally different things. Your memory is used by the CPU for games and programs for instruction sets. HDD space is used for writing information to the HDD.
