Author Topic: Is The XBox 360 still breaking down & giving people problems with that RROD? (Read 1417 times)

I was thinking about going out & buying an all new 360 cause mine kept breaking down ever so often (seeing as though i bought it back in the beginning of 2007). I figured by now they should have done something to make it more reliable in 2009 besides an extended warranty. Has anyone bought one in 09, is it better?

You got to look up something specific on the box, I forgot what. Certain models don't break down nearly as easy.

they probably still break down $\-/o$ i had rrod before and they gave me the new model xbox that was supposed to be rrod proof in 2008 but on tuesday after playing street fighter 4 i go take a shower and when i come back and turn it on i have the red ring AGAIN!!!

i'm sending it in this week but now i have to get my own box to ship it. people have told my the hardware has improved and it won't happen a third im but i'm not too sure. i'm thinking of selling it to switch to ps3 bcuz this is ridiculous, i really don't want to pay for this problem when the warranty runs out

I can promise you they didn't send you a new model, they sent you a refurbished one.

Yea it was refurbished. But I have had my 360 since launch and have only had RROD once. *Knocks on wood*

I still have it in tip top shape in my bedroom right now.

I use the Newer Model, And I believe they are Even Less Likely to get RRoD's, Mainly due to the fact they have Fans on the Console now.

Just don't Play for Hours and Hours and Hours without break.

As for me, I have not recieved a RRoD Yet.

It only happend once to my brother's 360. and they repaired it within 2 weeks.

I got my 360 the January after its release. It still works, but after seeing a lot of my friends getting the ring, I'm skeptical and not taking any chances.

if you buy one, buy it at sam's club. they are very liberal with refunds and exchanges, because they want to keep people shopping there. I did this, and any time I have any sort of a problem, I just bring it back and get a new one.

They need to make it smaller & less heat consuming... I thought they would have done that by now (Guess Not). I have some great games on 360 and i'd really like to keep the box alive & not trade up with a PS3. I hope Microsoft pulls there thumbs out of there a**** & just redesign the damn thing!!!

PS3 is the same way. Its twice as big as the 360. It looks like a damn monster. I have not run into any issues with my PS3 and only one with the 360. But heh thats the price you pay with computer type hardware. I mean look at a high range computer. Im talking about Quad core and Quad SLI. You need like 20 + fans to keep that comp cool.

i got the rrod only once. but when i went back 2 game stop 2 get a new one the guy told me a couple of ways to make it last long. he said 2 always keep it off the carpet and always unplug iit when ur finish so it dosent overheat. ever since that i have never had the rrod

Every piece of hardware will have its issues. Its just the nature of the beast. I mean look at the 8800 series of Nvidia cards for PC's, I have 2 Nvidia geforce 8800 GT. Powerful cards when they were released, but the only thing that sucks is everytime I want to play a game no matter how crappy it is I have to turn both fans on my cards to 95%. You know why? because if I don't they will reboot my system within 3 minutes of gameplay. its within 20 seconds in games like crysis. I can't get a better cooling system for the cards because my case is so small.

But basically the more technologically advanced we get the more we are gonna run into problems. Its what comes out of making stuff bigger and better with more processing speed.

I mean think back to the first computers ever built. They had a super computer that literally took up the whole room it was built in. They had to keep the room at about 20 F to keep the damn thing cool. Or else it would overheat really quickly. So everyone that worked with that computer had to dress up like they were in a snow storm.

Again the bigger and better we make stuff the more heating problems and other hardware related problems we will run into. its just a fact of life.

Im pretty sure (don't quote me on this) but the reason why the 360 has the RROD is because of heating issues. I have had an external addon fan to mine since the first RROD and have not had a problem since. Keep it as cool as possible and don't run it for more then 4 hours straight and you shouldn't have any problems. Now I can not guarantee that but it should help.

Not living on your on your game is good advice. But going to refund friendly stores is the best as well. Best Buy lets you put two year insurance on the 360 and just about everything you buy there. So if something happens to mine, I take it to them and put up sixty beans for the next insurance. Basically, I'm paying sixty dollars for an xbox!! But as far as computers are concerned, I'm looking into the liquid cooling system on computers other than alienware, cuz I heard they're extremely effective...

360 isnt that unreliable. I mean the OLDER models are the problem. because they rushed them trying to be in front of sony in sales. The newer dated models of X-360 can be more trust worthy than what people lead on.
But I do agree that PS3 is more reliable but it adds to the bill..... crap!
