new mugen creator: taking some advice.
« on: June 27, 2009, 04:00:30 PM »
whats good Mugen family, well i have been on the mugen scene a bit testing characters and making lil video games out of already created characters for quite a few years now.  I have been a graphics arts designer for a few years and when came to across mugen i still have never made anything yet. getting the feel for my dream game i want i guess.  Well now i want to start doing my own characters. from the ground up. best i would really appreciate some sound and good advice from those who have been around the creator/author field for some time for what maybe roads and areas i should par take in when making my own. i already have laid some start up ground work as far as details of what kind of characters i want to make and what skills they will have. i i will be workin on about 10 original characters and 10 characters from various sources such as anime and marvel that have never been done yet. what i am not really to sure of is should i just do them by doing simple edits from other characters already made (with permissions of course) or do from total scratch. what do you think as creators would be a more productive approach in getting my characters made out not just faster but in good quality? please all and any opinions are needed and thankfully welcomed.

Well Making a whole game takes a lot of time... it takes even longer if your the only one working on it.

A lot goes into making a whole game.

Screen Pack
Stages
Characters
and thats just spriting

then all of that needs to be coded.

The best thing to do is a get a team together that is into the same concept your into and go from there...
but it's best to learn spritting and get good at it first before you jump into a whole game.

Just because your a graphics designer doesn't mean your going to be a great spriter.

My job in real life is  Graphics Designer and it still have stuff to learn when it comes to sprites.

and i don't recommend you doing edits of other peoples custom characters.

I hope what i said helped....

good luck on what you got planed.

hey thanks for your input and i definetly feel what your saying on dont use others custom edits. yeah i wasnt going to do that one. what i kinda wanted to do was take the original characters not the edits already made and do my own editing from the original sprite itself. i havent been doing the graphics arts for very long but for some time and yeah i see spriting can be some work indeed . mi got fighter factory and i also want to get a few other programming tools to use before i venture into it fully. i like to come equipped with all i need to mkake it work. as far as stages and all the rest i just gonna start at characters first. stages will be implemented when i got the characters all out of the way. hmmmm join or create a team? wow so man other teams out there and still i am not sure who would even work with me or even if i could get into their team already. especially if they have other projects going on. i am going to be doing stuff in my spare time , mainly my days off from work. doing alot of drawing first tho. summer here and i got my 2 kids so they keepin me a bit busy but i want to dedicate some time to gettin this underway. thanks again for the info and i surely will use all of it too.

i dont know if its ok but i would like to share with yall one of my characters that i am working on, its Jiro from Kikaider anime. i got some pics from the anime and working off of them. i have found a base form but i dont want to do no chibi  or small shorty guy stuff. kof or mvc style is best i am using for him. right now its still in the concept form and soon i will be trying to sprite the guy. bfore i do anyone have any good suggestions at the moment as far as a good base? or should i go all ninja and just do what i can do and then after done get some feedback on him?
