Implementing Comic Book Effects???
« on: June 18, 2011, 07:58:54 PM »
What the best way to create a comic book feel in characters that will eventually be used for a full game....

Examples:
-comic text popping up that references the opponent in the middle of a match...like an intro effect, but during the middle
-flipping comic book pages during super moves(instead of the hyper portraits used in mvc though they serve the same purpose)
and occasional "editorial" comments from "the writers" that appear on the top and bottom of the screen(comic-book style of course)

I'm sure every character would need the same treatment in order for it to work properly but I just want to know if all of this perfectly "do-able" and what's the best way to set it up in order for me to make it easier to use on the other characters???

Also...is there a character that already has some of the effects that I can use for reference???

Sure it's completly doable - Their's nothing that mugen can't do ussing explosions & helpers - The turning of the page effect might be a hard process thow seeing how you would have to make these sprites yourself unless you want to rip some sprites from a Sega Genesis game called Comix Zone - The only Mugen refference I can think of is in Zvitor's Spider-Man super move where he has a newspaper article with spidey pictures but you could take that same method & make a comic page effect. @-)

Here is a video of the game with page turning sprites :

I have the emulator for Sega genesis - If I can score the rom then I can rip them for you - Your topic got me thinking & I might try my hand at making a comic page inside of a hyper - I can use a trigger of reading the name of the opponent to get it to work so I don't have to make a page for each character I fight - Just a specific battle like Spider-Man vs Electro - If Spidey is fighting anyone else he will use the hyper like normal but if he hit's Electro then it will send him into a custom state where I can start the comic page. @-)

That's Exactly What I'm Trying To Do...And Funny Enough It's For A Full-Scale Marvel Project!,lol...not character specific though but it will be for the cut-scene portion I'm trying to implement. And I'd really appreciate your help with the rip.
