Program to split GIFs or videos into seperate PCX frames?
« on: August 04, 2011, 02:25:32 AM »
So I'm working on an intro I made, and its long (~10min). I managed to convert the MP4 I saved it as into a GIF. But there are quite a few frames (18,502) and GIMP literally takes a half hour to open it, and when it does it just freezes, so the Save as Layers thing isn't an option.

Is there any way I could turn either file (GIF or Video) into a series of PCXs to put into MUGEN?

Why is it ten minutes?

If you send me a link and tell me what time frame you like cut out i can download the video and convert it to png. (example.  1:01 -1:05)

I use Quick time pro or adobe after effects

Its 10 min because I wanted a longer one, would it still be possible to convert the images?

I tried to get After Effects working on Linux, but all older versions don't work (wouldn't you know the program I need is one of the few) and the newest versions are 64-bit only, which has extremely limited support in the Windows Emulator I use.

I do have 2 video editors I used to make it, but I'm not sure if either can save as separate frames.

EDIT:
Actually to my surprise one does. In that case I'm just going to need something to mass convert 18,502 PNG files into PCX.  /:O :'(

sorry i didnt state the full instruction. Ill send the Png file to you can then you can convert them one by one with gimp......

if you chose a small part the it wont be some many frame to convert. 24 frames per second is the standard

Ummm a ten minute intro in mugen thats crazy. as said b4 its best to choose a small section. Its 24 frames per second. 60 seconds in a minute. 24x60=1440x10=14400 frames. to convert them. You would have to convert your mp4 or gif into a png sequence, then you take each one of your frames one by one and convert them to pcx. Sorry but you cant create pcx sequences. that probably because its not a Willey use format.

Is one by one the only way? I do now have them converting into a bunch of PNGs.

I was aiming for quite a long intro, as MUGEN is a very big game. Wanted to get as much as I could. (seeing now that may have been too much :D )

"how the create a pcx image sequence"

google it you wont get far  :(|)

PCX pretty much is a dead format. I dont know why when they updated to mugen 1.0 they didnt give support for png, etc. Anyhow this format PCX is a Dos image file type. no longer really used today. it evolved into something to do with Fax....  :-??

Yeah I know Elecbyte is supposedly going to add PNGs as usable in SFFs but who knows when that will be.

I might actually go ahead and try one-by-one-ing it. Or maybe not, and just hope MUGEN gets AVI, GIF or PNG support.

(Also you missed a perfect chance to use the Google emoticon. Tsk tsk.)

You have a gif right? Download Irfanview and use the "Extract all frames" option.

If it can I could try that.

Fun fact: the GIF file is 2.7 GB and the PNG folder is 5.0GB #:-S
If it does make it into intro form it will be huge.

Alright I tried opening the GIF in irfanview: That worked.
I tried the Extract Images thing: It DOES have PCX as an option!
So I press 'Start': The video freezes for a moment, then resumes and it doesn't extract even 1 frame. :(

However I just found out FF takes PNGs which I didn't know. Will that still work?

For videos, you can use FF Classic, since it has this tool.

or, try this http://www.aoamedia.com/extract_images.htm

Well I took the PNGs into FF images and found out they weren't formatted right. I guess they weren't 256 colors or something? I may just give up for now and pray to the MUGEN Gods* that AVI, MP4 or other video support is implemented. :-??

*The MUGEN Gods are Broly Super Saiyan 46, Shin LVL12 Akuma, and I'll_Completely_Destroy_Your_Village_and_Eat_Your_Children KFM for reference.
