Kingdom Hearts 3 has been confirmed by series director Tetsuya Nomura. Nomura is interviewed in a guidebook packaged with Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Ultimania in Japan. Details from the guide have been spilled onto the Internet, with Kingdom Hearts 3 and two other unannounced KH games, being revealed.

"About the next title, Kingdom Hearts 3 depends on Final Fantasy XIII Versus, but development of the next title is already underway," acknowledges Nomura. "There are two titles other than Kingdom Hearts 3 in conception, and I think I’ll release one within this year.

"The series won’t end in Kingdom Hearts 3, more like the conclusion of the Xehanort saga. It’s not the case that when Sora’s story is over another hero’s story will begin; Sora will be the hero until the end."

Kingdom Hearts 3 is exciting, but I would advise against so much KH stuff. I already feel we have too many titles with all the portable spin-offs, especially as the series' big draw has always been how special and full of discovery the games are. When you put out too many games, they feel less special, and with the story getting more and more convoluted (seriously, we're calling it Xehanort Saga now?) I do think less is more.

How can dividing your sales count as "safe" in any way? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if there's visible profit in the air and 360 architecture supports it; that's just poor marketing. FF14 on the other hand being an exclusion to the rule given it's P2P online listing. I've got nothing against Sony, I just do'nt see how that kind of scheme would maximize profit? FF13 on the 360 pulled in 494,300x 1st month. Sure it was half what PS3 sold- but 494K is B@nK no matter how you look at it, and as we all know, Sony loves B@nk.

If it's only on the PS3 I doubt I will even try it out, I don't care enough to go out and buy a console just to play one game- even if I did, I wouldn't may several hundred just to get slapped with the newer model in less than 2 years.

Hiring a whole team of guys to do a port on a system not too many folks care about it is not gonna get you too much money. The 360 userbase has a very small amount of people who care about jrpgs. (See laughable last remnant and infinite undiscovery sales) PS3 is a platform Where most every one who owns one will Jump at KH3. for 360 it'll just be another title to fill the gap between the next cod, halo, or gears title. This isnt my point of view because i prefer PS3. This comes from my experiences with both communities and both types of users Theres limited money to be made for the jrpg genre. I would love to say they could make that money on xbox but the truth is no they cant.

FF14 is PS3 exclusive3 because Microsoft wont back off on there Money grubbing Live practices. This is also why Steam will be supporting PS3 portal 2 and not the XBL version. XBL puts a limit on how many free updates you can apply to a game. They also have a long grueling approval process for content that makes seamless updating impossible. Basically they want there cut every time you open up shop. That my friend is the scheme.

PS3 version sold like 5 million worldwide and the 360 almost 1 million.
And Square Enix got almost no profit for this game (360 version)...You know why?:
- DVD costs, Square Enix has to pay money to MS for every disc they produce, and FFXIII had 3 discs for the 360 version, well thats a lot of money they had to pay for that.
- Porting costs.
- Marketing (In the US and Europe the game had only commercials about the 360 version)
Yes, they actually got some profit from the 360 version, but not enough for such a big company like Square Enix.

I also hope FFVSXIII stays exclusive, why? Because I wanna know if Square Enix doesn't stab us in the back like they did with FFXIII (They made me pay 600 euro's for a grill..)
IF ITS NOT AN EXCLUSIVE, DON'T ANNOUNCE IT AS ONE.
But meh, it's probably not gonna happen, the director would kill himself if KH3 or FFVSXII go to a not Sony (Nintendo) related console.

Yeah and I agree with Yung  Kratos 100%. I don't get into these debates here online and usually get into discussions about the game business with friends in the real world ( ), but sales do dictate many aspects, from equals to the survival of a gaming studio. It's ugly stuff at times but hey, that's how the gaming business is becoming nowadays.

yeah sabaki me too , i dont really like getting into gaming business wars online ( but i have many times before tho , ) the gaming business is very fickle and tricky. i have an xbox 360, i go the arcade version, but do plan on getting the new black one for the built in wi fi. I got really good friends in the game business from studio to game stores. it harder on the stores cause their profit margin in beyond smaller since they do the whole trade in thing. that affects sales on their part because if i bought KH3 and brought it back months larer it done lost is current full value and they cannot sell the game out at full price. they win on selling it but lose on reselling it.  think of it all like this: if a game sold 2 million copies at 60 bucks a pop, thats about 120 million dollars made, the recent estimated cost to make a game on one platform is 10 million. so that means there is 110 million left if done on just one console, for multi its between 18 to 20 something million, minus a few million in ads and marketing and distribution, whats left is all prfit, around 75 to low end 55 million for one game. but remember thats if it sold 2 million copies. its hard to sell those figures with games that cater to mostly just fan base and if its not a great seller then less to break even in profits. halo, gears of war, god of war games, are sellers, they sold systems, PROFIT!  Now the fighting game genre is picking up and mvc3 is definetly i think gonna move some consoles but with todays current market marker for sales, its gonna be something to see it all happen. i might get a ps3 but not for one game only, havent found a game thats my type that i will shove out the bucks for but because it does have a nice few games that are NOT on xbx360 thats what is luring me in.  Exclusives to any console that are really good games tried and true will move console sales but depending on how many folks are willing to shove out the cash for the hardware is what will determine those game profits. i find more xbx360 peeps then ps3 peeps out in the real world i live in my area. i hope KH3 does well on whatever system it come on either one. its a win for us fans of one  but a win for bigger if its both. more sales, more profit  ( a lil more). we will all have to sit back and see what unfolds.. ok i am done with business talk.

I'll certainly give you that- you make a very sound argument under this basis. I guess my question then however would have to be  

  Will this RPG be marketed as a truly "J" RPG?

I can remember back when the original KH team had adds running on "Vault (that's actually what they called it back then ) Disney" every 45 minutes or so; essentially broadcasting to a much younger audience than is typical of other JRPG's. The truth is you've got mega-power Disney heading half the helm in what may not be received as a true "J" RPG. I think the influence of certain very western Disney characters will play influence in the reception of this product & count just as much as the anime/"J" chars + themes   in which case we cannot yet recognize the intent of it's devs marketing tactics.

& So the possibilities are..

Potentially drawing more focus from the strengths of "J" = Possibility

In the event that they do once again target a generally younger age  mass I think they may recognize that accessibility is their ally given children typically would never have the money to system sw00p for a new game the way adults can for games like Gears of War, or God of War.

  My defense I suppose is that when you remove or lessen the "J" in RPG you must begin to re-evaluate your drawing pool of games such as The Last Remnant or Infinite- and acknowledge the likes of non "J"'s such as Oblivion or Fallout that have done astronomically better on the 360- not to mention in certain cases of DLC been shown very partisan behavior by the developers.
@least until we understand who thier target audience is.

You have to remember $60 is what WE pay for these games. I would figure raw dollars to the developers would be in the $10 per copy range. Retailers gotta ramp up the price to make money for selling it. The company has to pay to ship it. They also have to pay MS, Sony, Nintendo a fee to allow that game to be on their system and then turn around and pay for THEM to test it before it released. Printing manuals prodoucing cases burning copies and applying the game art all adds up as thing not included in development costs but must happen before you put it on the shelf. There is a huge risk in releasing a game and considering what platform its on. Not only this But using the example of FF13 they spent a TON of money mainly because of the 360 audience. I saw Superbowl and NBA Playoffs ads and these werent the regular spots this is where the announcers shout out "FF13" so again I reiterate there are HUGE risks. Im almost positive Square lost money on that. Also as far as finding a ps3 title that makes you want to buy one

Youre right KH3 Is a bit of beast of a different nature however you have the marketing is just as dependent upon the disney license (if not more) as the final fantasy license. Im sure you and most of your friends thought that fighting sephiroth or teaming up with squall was way cooler than Flying with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Again I talk with of Kingdom hearts fans and they think the franchise would do fine without the Disney characters altogether (and even the final fantasy ones for that matter) Im not saying that the Disney license doesnt help I know of parents who showed interest in buying KH 1 and 2 just because of that. but these same parents would NEVER buy there child an Xbox due to its image as the shooter system. Despite its attempts to appear as the family friendly system its still commits its image to xbl (parents hate xbl btw) and shooters. So none of the appealing aspects of the game are a fit with the console. The successful rpgs on Xbox ,Mass Effect, Fallout, Oblivion, all have first person shooter elements. And of people hated on the first Mass Effect because they didnt get that it was an rpg with shooting elements not the other way around. So yes the userbase is easily defineable and i couldnt see any justification for them releasing it from a buisness standpoint.

Also Halo/Gears Of War are the only games I ever wanted for my 360, so yeah, those are the TRUE great exclusives the Xbox 360 has.
GeoW1, L4D1/2, Me1/2, SC:C are all available on the PC and soon on the PS3, believe me, Third Party Exclusives are dying, the only way to keep it atleast as a Timed-Exclusive is by having a strong contract between the publishers and the console company.

You live in the USA right?
Ofcourse there are more people with a 360, there are like 14 Million PS3's and 24 Xbox 360's sold over there so it isn't really that surprising.
But if you go to Japan or Europe.....that's another story, since there are more PS3's sold over there, I don't know how the Xbox 360 is so popular in the States, the original Xbox only sold like 25 Million worldwide, I guess it was the heavy marketing strategy from MS.

Also, this is pretty old news guys (Not that old but it would be considered as 'old' on gamesites), I'm surprised that some of you didn't know that KH3 is already in development
Well....He said that KH3 would get released after FFVsXIII, so that would be maybe in 2014, or as a PS4 launch title.

Not trying to nit pick- but that sentence simply cannot be accurate. For one thing there's Alan Wake, Fable 2 (RPG) and multiple iterations of both Halo, Gears, L4D & F0Rz@.
Counting each gives us a total of 11- not to mention Guilty Gear 2: Overture, Lost Odyssey (J-RPG), MagnaCarta II (J-RPG)(Which 0WNZ), Beautiful Katamari, Blue Dragon (J-RPG by FF series creator Sakaguchi- that managed precise sale record breaking) + both Crackdowns.

Lost Odyssey by the way debuted @ #7 for the 360, selling 203,000 in its debut month of February in North America according to NPD.
 
So- to say that "the 360 user-base has a very small portion of people who care about J-RPGs"- cannot simply be justified in full effect when considering these factors.

I just want to say that I could care less which console is "better" - I've got a few of each (so it will yield no personal effect)- but do share fascination with the logic playing role behind the format KH3 is going to be released in. It tells us a great deal about the developer and the current gaming media environment. I think that's been the nature of Yung Kratos's and my discussion to this point.

oh, my bad.  Yeah, hopefully they'll learn their lesson and quit with the exclusive hokum. & yeah- I have no doubt that typically J-RPG's will do fiercely better on the PS3. I know of people including myself grew up playing games like the FF's & other Square games on the PS/PS2; so a departure from the control scheme & system altogether can feel betraying. I'd just like to see console equilibrium for the sake of those without both consoles.
& yeah, FF13 did'nt do that well on the 360. I know there was a lot of controversy over the new linear gameplay & paradigm operation- but nothing that should have stomped numbers like that

Honestly, it seems each Final Fantasy gets worse then the last one ever since the ps2 came out. FFX was the start of the linear gameplay, it was overrated due to voice acting. FFXI which oddly is nothing like previous FF titles was at least big on exploration yet gets shot down by fans for a 15 dollar month fee, Then there's FFXII which didn't know what style it wanted to be. Then we have XIII which completely throws the past 20 years or so of advancing the franchise into the shredder.

I don't even understand why they're calling all these games XIII either when Versus and Agito have nothing to do with XIII. Versus looks half decent but there will be people that are going to look at the title and see FFXIII and think "Not again"

Couldn't agree more  What hurt the most for me was the fact that I really tried to like FF13; and just couldn't. To say that Square didn't try would be a joke, there are a number of phenomenal features involved- but the things that I loved the most about RPG's in general were amiss.
