For fans of The ol' sega genesis
« on: June 20, 2009, 10:16:15 PM »
shipping out the 25th of next month retailing at 50$ u.s.Is a retro remake of the sega nomad.

For those unaware of the name, the sega nomad is a portable genesis that ran off of 6 double A batteries and was notorious for its screen blur effect.

Unlike other 3rd party sega portables, this awesome little piece of hardware features. *ripped from site.*

This portable Sega system can play Sega Genesis carts plus, Mega Drive carts (Japanese Sega Genesis). It also has an included TV out function so that you can connect this portable to any TV set for full size gameplay. This new unit also features the arcade style button layout plus a built-in rechargable battery via USB so that you never need a set of batteries! All that plus it's built on the Firebox technology so that you can use development carts to download new future DLC games!

here is the link and a review of said portable.

http://store.videogamecentral.com/sega-genesis-portable-retrogen.html

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqCTyDhqf6Q&feature=player_embedded#

Personally, i want this ....Bad. never got to enjoy the nomad, sega CD *outside of emulators*, 32X, or even sega channel *which hurt me the most, thanks sega.*

This hopefully will replace my psp as I only use it to play populous. Thoughts?

Oh so could I, but I have a little over 50 carts *collected over the past 2 years*.

this would seem like a no-brainer. my only qualm is how good is the screen they have and how accurate is the emulation. but having a SD card slot opens up alot of possibilities of what I could do with the system.

Somewhere on the lines there is supposed to be DLC games. hmmm...don't suppose they would be to the calibur of Streets of rage or decap attack would they?  8=|

\-/o  y wont sega just jump back into the game wars. They were like Nintendo, no one could touch them that is. They were the only company to ever give nintendo a run for there money.

Sega could win this war i think, i mean the Dream cast was stronger then the XB and PS it jsut came out a little to early and lost out on some vary useful tech.

actually they were nothing like nintendo. they had fewer franchise titles like than mr. sonic himself and thats what led to their downfall. dreamcast was stronger but ps won by pure popularity. i agree it did come out too early. it actually made it easier to copy too. thats why the company who does an idea first gets put down by its competitors due to the competition revamping what the original company has made but making it better. see what happened to wii tis year lol. ps and 360 copied their stuff and made it better

Sega dropped alot of their key franchises, such as.
Vectorman
Streets of Rage
Comix Zone
Eternal Champions
Altered Beast *for a lil while at least*

Microsoft learned everything from sega, the front of a dreamcast indicates that its powered by windows CE which was a ploy by microsoft as to getting ready to enter the market for their own gain. Not to mention peter moore who discontinued the dreamcast in America marking the end of its commercial run. I can't say microsoft made anything sega did better as about 1/3 of microsoft titles adhere to the FPS genre. not to mention live isn't very fun.

Hate me if you want but I think microsoft had something to do with sega'a downfall if not by their own bad business decisions *coughdroppinggenesissupportcough*

I can't say I like sega now, They would have no chance again today's competitors as they don't blunder near a much as sega and with exclusives that could be picked up by any of the other companies, It leaves sega to produce 3rd rate titles.

My point is, people who like sega, stay with the original 4 consoles *Master System, which is still big in Brazil, the Genesis/Mega Drive, Sega Saturn and finally Dreamcast*

I should have been a sega rep. in my past life.

Had I the money, I'd get it.

I miss my sega and my 20 ish games for it. The only one I got now is Mercs, and the others are... somewhere.

And Sega Channel was the best idea ever.

sega channel was hot :)  I really miss that.

Believe it or not the down fall of the dreamcast had nothing to do wit games. The playstation kill of the DC. At the time Dvd players were hot and new to the market they cost alot then (i dont know the exact price) and the playstation came with one thus making it the better buy.
Its that simply.

Now the dumb thing is sega could have saved the system by releasing a dvd component but they decided to throw in the towel, who thought that sum so small would have such and impact.  o.O#

that just goes to show you how buyers are. there off to the new biggest and best thing even if they dont need it.

Whoever said Xbox live sucks you played the wrong games man. Xbox live is and always will be better then PSN. Just ask alot of the die hard playstation  fan boys, they even say the Net code sucks and that it takes anywhere from 10 -40 minutes to get into one game. With xbox live it normally takes 30 seconds the most ive waited for a online game session is 5 minutes. Plus with the heavy hitter Halo, xbox live was awesome. Halo 2 and halo 3 have the best matchmaking for the consoles period. I don't care who you are its the truth wether you like it or not.

About sega they have had a great run but they just don't wanna go back to their roots and go for what was awesome they just want to re-make and alter their current franchises and go away from what people loved so much back in the day. If sega were to use this portable and make a new sonic but have it with all the old school type of gameplay they would probably sell atleast a million copies of the game. Sonic was the bomb back in the old days and they just can't seem to grasp that.

I hope for sega that this portable takes off, if I had the money I would def buy it hands down.

Sega had alot against them.
-disinterest of franchises *although the new ones seemed to make up for it along with all those fighting games*
-ps2 and xbox
-peter moore http://kotaku.com/5049847/peter-moore-killed-the-dreamcast-fired-a-lot-of-people
-lack of funds to support their first party needs

not one is just to blame and none of them caused sega's downfall any faster then the other. but at heart though, the genesis dynasty lives on though the gamers. but enough about that.....

I'm looking into getting a working segaCD system for cheap *one that works, lol* anywhere I can look outside of videogame central or amazon?

Ah the Nomad.  ;D I remember that system.

It was epic. Take the console out with you anywhere you want. That machine was really outstanding for its time. I remember when I was a kid and I'd take out Sonic 3, Streets of Rage 2, and Shinobi 3 during camping trips in the U.P. The only problem I had with the console was how many batteries it took up. IMO even though Sega had that battery problem, to me it was superior to GBA. Don't get me wrong, I love the GBA, I owned 4 of them, but overall I think Sega had better musical scores for its games with Sonic, Shinobi and SOR. I'm sure there are other games for the console that have amazing soundtracks, but those 3 stick out in my head the most.

Since the new Sega Genesis is only 50 bucks, why not? Its the perfect time to bring back the oldies, if they did this back 10 years ago with dreamcast, it would have felt just rushed and too ahead of its time. Also I think it takes a lot of courage to go back to an ancient console and just make new games for it. Since its by Sega, for all we know we might be getting a Sonic the hedgehog 4, Shinobi 4, and Streets of Rage 4.

I'm not saying they will make them, but now they are finally remembering their fans from back in Sega's golden days and I think its a real turn around for them. I mean with all the 2 Shinobi sequels and Sonic sequels after genesis that didn't play at all like the old games, its possible this might be the perfect resurrection for Sega and the 2d generation.

As for them making 64 bit games (like N64ish)... I don't really care for that idea, PS1 and the N64 both had great games, but they were more like prototypes of new 3D consoles. I hope they do start up making new 2D games though.

Edit: Also the game plays both  US and Japanese carts, so thats cool. There's a bunch of Japanese Sega games that made it to Japan that never came over to US.

Ah, the days of the SEGA Genesis. When Sonic was good, and Blast Processing made games fast. I remeber my first game, Toy Story. Ah, good times...good times. RIP Sonic when he was good 1991 - 2006. Will we see the day when SEGA goes back to making good Sonic games?

=O I WANT THAT! New genesis games!? EPIC WIN! Lets pray they make some new 2D platformers and beat 'em ups.

Of course though, there is a chance it'll be riddled with cons (IE. the games lag on it, the graphics are glitchy, not all games work, etc.), so I think I'll wait for some reviews and footage of it in action first.
