Title: Need some help in talking to my family - nothing serious.
Post by: Ryu # 20 on December 25, 2007, 03:21:02 PM
I just wanna convince my dad and brother to get a new video card for my computer. But I'm sure they'll say it's wasting money, so I'm trying to think of something to say. :P

He DOES. The one who doesn't know is my mother (I'm teaching her to use the Internet). And my brother is a turntable: First he says he agrees with me, then he says it's a money waste. :D

My brother KNOWS it's not messed up... but it has shown some fault sometime. The screen would just fade to black because the card was loose inside the motherboard or something.  8=| I guess I'll just have to look for prices. My brother says they cost like $800 (Argentina of course).

A video card $800???Are you looking for a professional video card?Because i know they are not that expensive 8=|
I`ve seen them much less than that(arround $300/$400)...trust me:i don`t know much about that, but from what i`ve seen in galleries, they are arround the prices i´m telling you.Just check only on sites like Mercado Libre or De Remate
That will give you a much better reference

well he says it's $800 in Argentina so that would be like $80 US Dollars so it isn't expensive at all

Considering US$ 1: $3,10 in Argentina, that's gotta be a little expensive. But we shall see.

get a 512mb card, they cost from 130 dollars all the way up to 500 dollars. but i would suggest you get a 360 or ps3 if you want to play the new games, since you also need a processor running at 3.0ghz (dual core) or above and 1 to 2 gigs of ddr2 or ddr3 ram. really not worth spending the money. now if you want it for mugen get a 256mb graphics card, it should be more than enough

I want it for PC games and to replace my old cheap-stock one. I read somewere NVIDIA Geforce MX were just low-price disguised versions of Geforce 2. As they are low-price they come stock on many computers.

As for PS3 or XBOX 360... No way of convincing them. If they're so reluctant to spend money on a video card, can you imagine what it would be like if I told them about a new next-gen console? :)

Anyways my birthday's comin' next month so there might be hope for upgrading P.C. components. I gotta hope for the best. [-O<

whoa, just blackmail your brother(think about what you have that your brother wants and give it to him) and then do what lightblackheart said
ps:your family is like mine,it took 5 years to convince them to buy a new pc,and they are still saying no to a console(i have been trying to get one since i was a kid but they never gave me the playstation, playstation 2 or xbox, gameboyadvance,i am thinking about asking for a psp as it is cheaper than a wii and seeing if i can have one since my birthday is in this month)
ps2:they say they never money for original games(which is why most of mine are pirated) but they spend money enough for 4-5 games every week on clothes(because of mom always looking for fashion stuff \-/o...),heck we have clothes enough for the next years so they could forget about buying clothes for one week and give me a console(gonna try to see if i can have my Wii or a psp)

I HAVE asked my parents, but I don't know if it'll work. I wouldn't mind if they told me no wih a proper explanation. Problem is my dad just got himself an .mp4 player and a big LCD screen TV and he says a video card is wasting money? He doesn't even watch sports on that TV. The best use that TV has is when my brother watches The Simpsons.

Now on blackmail believe me your bro will need you some time that's when you got em >:D.

I had to cover him up sometimes, however I'm not that evil to blackmail him. Too bad nobody believes in chivalry anymore. 8)

Anyways it's just convincing them of a birthday gift (coming up in 2 weeks). If I can't get it, oh well better luck next time. ;)

You can try to find a cheap one here maybe.

If your dads job requires physical labor you can work with him for a while to pay it off.  :-?? Idk.

I want to get a videocard for a birthday gift, why would I sell my P.C. to get a new one? This one is still excellent!

I would if I could! :) But they're saying it might do something bad to the motherboard. Has happened before but it wasn't my idea (actually I didn't even know my dad would install another videocard that time), I think it was because nobody had any idea. So it has made an impression on them, and that's why they don't want to.
