Nintendo has reportedly decided to stop all repairs of the original Nintendo after 24 years of support, Agence France Presse reported on Friday. A spokesperson said that the company has decided to end support due to increasingly short supplies of replacement parts. The iconic game system was sold as the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US and Europe, and as the Famicom in Japan.
Nintendo's Ken Toyoda said that while the company is sad to turn its back on the NES, the company wanted its legions of loyal fans to focus on the Wii, currently the best selling next-generation console worldwide. Nexgenwars.com, a tracker of game console sales, says the Wii has shipped 12.26 million consoles, compared to 12.2 million for the Xbox 360 and nearly 5.08 million for the PS3.

I think same things happened SEGA consoles (DreamCast, Sega Saturn), and the reason that they quit support was same as Nintendo's (no supplies). For Nintendo, I guess people can play regular Nintendo games for Wii, so maybe some people don't need regular Nintendo now, but it sounds sad. :(
Thanks for news....

I still have my original NES (just found my box of games yesterday!) + my 2nd NES (from my mom, missing the front door but still works!) and my SNES (gave it to my grandma) but its sad to see they ended support, signifies the real end for the older consoles... have a few games on my Xbox tho, so I can keep my systems in good condition for more yrs to come.
-
just treat them with respect.
and you are sure to see they are gonna last longer and longer. XD||
my bet is my snes is close to 10 yrs old i think. :(|)

yeah, I do. the one with the missing door is still in my original box and the one I had is in a "game bin" with all my older systems...
My SNES is from 91, I think thats the year they came out? It still works, my grandmother and I used to play Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo back in the day....maybe I can get her to play Mugen lol

All my systems work, and I treat them with great care. If a part of it's broken. It wasn't me.
Except the time I dropped my Gameboy advance and the screen busted, that was me.
