Title: I need some help
Post by: Mugenfan615 on July 08, 2016, 06:57:06 AM
what tools or utilities I need to start spriting?! Every link I click is broken. I want to create characters but seems like I keep hitting a dead end  >:(

after a sprite sheet what do I use to start to animate it? Lack of valid links is really making me lose my interest.  *Iceman ThumbsDown!*

Start with GiMP and don't worry about animations. Learn to sprite first. Good luck.

Plus depends on what you wanna use , some use gimp which is free, others like me use regular Paint /mspaint for spriting and others use various others. I can post some working links to a couple for you if you want to get started doing g spriting in basic formats and work ya way up but its also depends on which ones you will feel either the most comfy using and also has the most resources in them to do the trick all in one. Gimp is a great one to use since you can much more in it . its like free Photoshop. 👍👍

Gimp

Paint.net is another great tool to use also.

We have a section here too that has tools if you need them. Gotta check to see if the links are still working to those or if been taken down and we are still using them and are dead links.

Yeah to add what Dev said, if you are just starting out its best to learn the basics of pixel art first. Once you nail either a desired company style, your own well conceived style that works and is good and on point , character structure, pixel placement, learning to use shading ( which varies greatly from style to style and so forth ) then go from there and start working on frames for animation, knowing how many frames are needed and required ( mugen coding will depend on this greatly too ) and just keep learning from there and most important while spriting...practice , practice and keep practicing. Even folks who are good artists by hand drawing it takes time too once you learn how to do the pixel version . You will get it and do well on your journey. Take your time! Anymore things you need , require and want to find info on and such , feel free to ask 👍👍

spriting isn't really that hard to do. I done so on a super Mario world rom hacking site with Mario characters. just extremely time consuming. I just drew a mr sinister pose for example. sadly I have no clue how to upload pictures here to show. and thank you.

Use paint.net for the spriting/editing part, and then to crop your picture, you can use the crop to selection feature in paint.net or gimp.
