  Okay so this was going to be released on Volzzila & TOPS forum, mugen multiverse, but apparently Volzilla retired and there were some topics stating that the forum was dead  o.O#

So Then the release was going to go to CVG, but for some reason they are offline, they have been for a few days.  :-w ... Still.

Red Skull looks like he's part of the same Super Soldier program that make Capt America, (in other words, Cap makes a great base for Skull).

This is a mixture homage to all the Red Skull incarnations, he has a German WWII handgun, a Soviet Russian scythe from his days when he became a communist, he uses Captain America's Shield Smash as a nod to the embodiment of his clone "Red Skull's resurrection", frequent use and displays of the cosmic cube stories, and he is sporting his second generation design which has been featured in action figures and board games recently.


...Why are all the files and readme for Thor?

He was built on Thor as a template to follow and retain some of the new add-ons I had done, but during gameplay he is entirely Red Skull so hopefully there are no issues over "creator rights"  8=|

I had a private project in the works of a roster of about 8 marvel characters (4 good - 4 bad), it is like an Avengers game but it seems like it isn't going to get done. I should release it? I think I'll finish it this week and put up a download, it is a nice build. It was actually designed after your videos of your roster/custom screen pack  :P

haha disregard my last statetment about virus. my computer was messing up. and i only see 2 bugs right now which i will point out in a few. also it would be nice if you could take out those thor sprites in the sff but none of those are major

During gameplay you will not experience the file names or have the capabilities to read about a fighter. However you are free to rename them as whatever you wish them to be.  :thumbsup:

Oh I am ecstatic to hear that. I am sure there are going to be plenty of problems, I don't code officially, so this was the best I could do but anyway I welcome all feedback, maybe I can find a solution for these problems down the line and make a fix(s) update.

in state 1201 it changes anim to 3010 when there is no anim 3010

(the teleport move)

edit: just make an animation with an empty frame with that anim number an all should be good

ok that optic blast is all off somehow. you forgot to add "triggerall = power >= " because you can perform the hyper with no power and also there is something wrong with the hitdef in that move but i cant find it yet

This used to be that one, that was the third private build of this character. This one, the 4th, is an update to that one, like a redo almost. I got rid of a lot of stuff that cluttered the gameplay and control scheme.

I came to the conclusion that less = more in terms of a fighter that fights at max a 20 second fight.  :P

cosmic cube?

Yes the cosmic cube, The Red Skull had a few issues of him and the cosmic cube, although my version does not follow the issues to a T, it is a homage to all those issues mentioned before to Acey.

You'll notice he has a hyper attack utilizing the cosmic cube and his level 3 punhes are charged with that energy. In his win pose it appears again, and of course he teleports with it. They share the same color scheme in order to hint at it. I would have made an intro with it but I wanted to keep it simple and not over show it in every attack, such as his level 3 punches, to see the cube is not necessary.

In the later issues he became apart of the cosmic cube and no longer needed that object to use its power. I believe it was created by the Beyonder? He was resurrected with help and was going through the process to master it. He met his end on Galactus' ship.

His ability to will people to any place at anytime and he also displys teleporting capabilities in the other issues.

It was my first wip ever.

I started out in this mugen warehousing place called "The Hidden Elect" (offline) where we shared leaked and stolen characters for mugen  ;D, rare stuff at that time to.

After working on a Conan the Barbarian animation I got to work on Red Skull with an admin/coder named Zodiac.

After seeing the results I wanted to make a detailed version but somehow it turned out worse in 2008. I may have released this one somewhere on esnips?

So i decided to go for it one "last" time in 2009 with a traditional base. This one was private and only a few had it. Arkady did a custom edit of it with a lot of stuff.

Anyway, the wip was lost on me when my PC crashed. Luckily though Volzilla saved it and sent it my way. Once I had it back i decided to enhance to the 2012 version after doing stuff for DBZ choujin/stig, Mortal Kombat Mugen, Spider-man, marvel/DC, Street Fighter, Originals, and stages.

I had some of the older versions, and while I liked the look in some cases, this is fully realized.  I think all the moves (which takes a fair amount of imagination) fit well.  But if its not there already, you might want to explain the Cosmic Cube/Tesseract in the txt file somewhere.  Otherwise, it doesn't make a lot of sense for folks not familiar with the Red Skull.

Is the shoulder charge a "borrowed" move from Cap? If so, I like the comparison. 

Only suggestion I have: with the beam hyper, it might be good to add the cube somewhere visibly (maybe I missed it, but seems like its not in the animation).

Otherwise, the only other thing might be a special intro with Cap... .V.!

That laser beam this is actually coming from a robotic hand attachment. Red Skull is notorious for using robo tech in his villainy.

In fact this was something that was in the old version that didn't make it into the final version.

It seems like it would be firing multiple lasers or missile projectiles?

The problem is where is he gonna hit in something that big, how successful and how vulnerable will it be? Will the move take too long to perform or be effective in damaging? Will it be overpowered in that case or miss a lot? How will red skull transition to that thing and then back to normal to continue the fight?

See these are the questions I asked myself and I found out that for a fighter you have to compromise and do what's best for the game,the fun, the controls, the big picture.

Zvitor once told me that Loganir's "Thor character is awesome....but man does his level 3 hyper attack take long to finish".

to answer some o your questions

he could use that cube thing to teleport and then you dont see him, then he either teleports back with the large robot or comes on screen with the large robot and does whatever he does, it can either be a controlled attack or just a regular hyper, super pauses and stuff added in there somewhere.  i would like to see it controlled though like a sort of transformation hyper that last for a certain period of time with about 2 attacks and ability to move forward and backwards. this i think would make it not overpowered. this could be a nice level 3 hyper

It is possible to do but my point is it's too big to work. I had him in the old version and he really was bulky and cheap and just plain ugly/inconvenient.

That's good.

catbat74, that comes up with some releases. Some virus scanners will even pick up MUGEN as a virus. Just be sure you are opening the right file, with the sff, def and all standard MUGEN files.

Ayo nice release but i must say it still has many bugs to be fixed..like when red skull is hit with a hyper u can see a sprite of thor pop outta nowere its pretty weird and he also freezes sometimes when he gets hit with a hyper as well

Some of his required sprites are hard to find, apparently Thor shared a lot of the same sprites in multiple frames. I have some bug issues allready fixed, I am looking to do an update and have some new minor stuff included like a flight mode using rocket boots!  ;)

LOL yeah...same multiple frames lol... go learn how gethits works on a sff for mugen.
You don't even know how to build a sff with the required gethits proper axis placement
and it's the "Template" fault now  ;*))

For a 5 years of work it's a bit strange everything's so rushed...
i tested this briefly and at last it's good  that you said you will will focus in fixing
this char before anything else.
in special check all that broken colisions, high priorities, width ctrl issues, infinity hypers,
misalign "shining" explods, broken P2 states in first attack - letters bug , that pause taunt...etc..etc

But in special you need to fix your broken attitude about readme files :P
No one will guess a command moveset/ gameplay/ fixes/ history/ version downloaded of your char by osmosis.
You need to do a proper char documentation when releasing something.
...YES people check this often before and "on the fly" testing a character.

BTW... Nice sprites. Congratulations! Nice to know you like to share, i like it too. :)
I heard someone is thinking about doing a good use of all these for a brand new Skull.
including that robot hyper you think don't fit in. But he's planning using a "Sleeper" version of the robot instead.

Im waiting for the update and Doomsday ( hope it's not the one edited over McCready's Strong Guy) *Iceman ThumbsDown!*

Hello to you to  :D

I am not blaming the "template" for my mistakes, there is a lot I didn't fix. Sorry Loganir but I am not a coder   :P

However I will try and fix this someday, You're welcome to fix it if you like :thumbsup:

Readmes are good, I have nothing against them, I just didn't do one. The gameplay is a standard mvc fighter type. That means any special attack is  :2 :3 :6  :p or  :k

All of my edits are open source, I encourage others to improve on anything I do.





My Doomsday is an edit of McCready's strong guy, however he plays very well regardless of that problem.  :)

Couple thing I noticed, mostly pointed out by Loganir:

- CLSN boxes need to be cleaned up and simplified.  There's tons of sprite that have too many hitboxes, too large hitboxes, or hitboxes not on the character.
- way too much infinite priority on his hypers and his whip attack
- his back dash looks choppy - might need another sprite or two of animation
- His HP and crouch HP looks odd with the effect you have in there now.  Needs to be less choppy and not quite so large
- files should always be cleaned up before release - a simple renaming takes no time for you to do.  Opening a char file and finding another character's name in there sometimes gives a bad impression of a rushed/sloppy project
- Thor sprites should be removed

Spites are decent looking.  Better looking then other Red Skulls.  He still has massive play issues though.

Thank you for the feedback, I fully intend to enhance/fix this character up. I did rush this edit, a lot i left unchanged, I really wanted to get him out as a beta. I have several wips that I wanna get out A.S.A.P. to make sure they don't get lost on me  @^@

But I intend on returning to each one and giving it a proper edit.

For my next release I will at least try to fix that pausing problem.  ::salute::

Would that happen to be Doomsday by any chance? Just had a look at your wips page and I think he looks Awesome (the other characters look Awesome as well =D> :O*D ) thats my fave version of him as well, so just wondered..

I appreciate the concern but nothing inspires more feedback than problems  :D

Anyway it's not a real big deal, they will all get updates and those problems will be fixed, scouts honor  :) . Just hold off from downloading my betas and wait for the final updated versions. It won't make a difference since you'll have to wait anyway for the final version.

On top of which I've seen final versions get updated a little more than once in my mugen lifetime  ;*))

Much better since the updates. The hypers seriously need a damage increase though, each one should be taking about 35-40% of life. Also if you can, the dust of death hyper should also have a lingering effect on health and flash the opponent red like iori's flame flashes them purple/red/etc. The cartoon music in the background of his speech can get annoying fast, so maybe some samples from the captain america movies and the avengers show.

The dust of death hyper is actually a re-used place holder, I actually wanted to sprite red skull doing this

Then have his dust shoot out from all sides in like a bloom or something?

I've seen the Joker gas fxs with palfxs on the opponent, and they don't look too good. That's why I didn't include a palfx with that hyper.


I really did want to change to a better quality but when you find HIS voice, you just have to have his voice, nothing else sounds like red skull to me than these lines delivered by that actor who appeared in the X-Men TAS.

I modified the hypers in all aspects to allow for a better and longer fight. My opinion is that too many characters perform their hypers way too often throughout a fight. It's like the fight turns out to be 99% hypers of the fight and characters seem to perform one hyper after another.

So the limitations I have in place will give you a better opportunity to use Red Skull's attacks and specials in skill and wit until you get that chance to try a hyper. The fights will last longer and you'll enjoy your victory more. Trust me  :)


On a side note, I am updating red skull, he now teleports by turning into the cube and then moving out.

His Captain America dash attack now does multipile hits instead of Captain America's hitdef

The pause menu has been removed.

And More things will be done based on the feedback here.

The cloud would be cool. Didnt he blast it out of a gun or a fake cigar in the books though? I do remember it shriveled victims' faces and turned them red as they slowly died, so thats why i thought youd like to try a lingering damage effect with the red pallete fx. As far as his voice, thats a great nazi germany voice, but have you heard him in the "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" show? Sounds very similar, more German flair, you might like it. Anyway, the character is dynamite. Love his suit, his moves, the specials, really gives you a taste of a evil nazi Red Skull and not the "safe" HYDRA one.  :w00t:
