Title: How do you make your mugen more interesting???
Post by: Atiles on August 19, 2011, 05:21:03 PM
Hello Infinity people I have been playing mugen for almost 2 years now and I tend to get bored fast with things, I used to add all the characters I can to my mugen and then play, but after a couple weeks of doing this I got bored and added an achevment list to unlock characters instead of just adding them all in and now I play mugen more often then I used to.
So I wanna know what do you all do when you get bored of your mugen game?  :-w

What kinds of things do you edit?
my chars mainly, also depends of my level of boredom
I either fix errors in the chars I use(if they happen to have any) or go for something else and make new attacks

I make a screenpack or a lifebar, n sumtimes I fiddle around with some files to add certain mechanics which I can apply to other characters, like first attack or sumthing

I admit i downloaded a marvel vs capcom 2 mugen edition that had some characters from none of that universe, so i just deleted them. i did get bored of my 100 character roster, i removed some unworthy characters or cheap characters, ended up with 72 characters left. now i just debug all of em and i added tag mode and patched em all. to make it more fun i decided to put in a story and a storyboard. I have the original Marvel Vs Capcom 2 game, and this mugen version was gameplay wise different, in no way did it deserve to be called Marvel Vs Capcom 2, tagging and other things were different, so i just created a whole new game all together with a whole new story. so many good characters i have seen deleted because of their incompatibilty with the tag code but all was well in the end, still working on the story animations tho.

I agree learn to create somethin. Thats what keeps mugen interesting IMO. Then learn to get better at it and then maybe share it. Well "maybe" lol

But yeh if it wasnt for that i wouldnt have stayed into mugen that long. Some cool comrads here in their own way pushed me to keep going at learning to create. the more you stay at it the more fun and easier it gets. If youre saying you find spriting easy already now then you have an extra added plus to that whole Creating factor . not many know how to full sprite or sprite edit and also code too. Thats a good thing if you can nail both. Now thats intersting mugen for yo @ss! :D Theres tons of stuff you can create once that all falls together^^

in my opinion what to edit id say start with kung fu man. Thats what electbyte made him for. for beginners to learn how to create chars. Even his stage. But me i just got some char sprite packs and went to work like that. I edited already made stages for my private use just practicing.

Ive been playing mugen for 3 years now... When i first got bored I created big portraits for all the characters I wanted, i then began making intro and ending storyboards and now im trying to make custom intros and endings for certain characters vs certain characters (something i still havnt mastered could use some help).

Mugen becomes more fun to play if you create a reason for your characters to be fighting (something i felt mvc3 was lacking, thought i would throw that out there  @^@ )

I liked your idea of setting yourself achievments to unlock characters, might have to try that myself   :cool

When I'm not making Niko (that is a lot of the time, unfortunately, need to spend more time on that) I just add random stuff to chars.

I might add Victory Quotes (fun to do actually), find/make portraits, assign stages to chars if they need them, add music if a stage has none, and do my best to fix the easier bugs in chars.

There's all sorts of stuff to do in MUGEN, but like everyone said creating is the best. Even something simpler like a stage is great, just to see it actually working in MUGEN.

Well I just recently got my friends into Mugen so even though i lack the ability to create, After almost 3 or 4 years my friends love Mugen and now they want to have a MUGEN Type tournament while also playing street fighter 3rd strike and Marvel vs capcom 3 so..Yeah i am happy that i finally got friends into mugen it makes it awesome and interesting to have tournaments. I try keeping my characters in the game well balance and not have cheap characters

(I have friends that look to choose boss characters and spam ultimates) Also i edit Size and life and damange so stuff won't be overpowered and be an actual like game...so...yeah thats about it.

The trick to beating friends that choose bosses is to never tell them about F1, and make it look like a VERY strong basic/special/hyper move. :D
