Title: Help With Select Portraits?
Post by: Rotten Rudy on August 26, 2010, 08:04:16 PM
Hey Everyone. I Need Some Help On This One. I Remember Way Back When A Guy By The Name Of Serj Tankian (Not The Singer) Released A Portrait Tutorial, Only Problem Was, It Messed Up My Portraits. I Would Really Appreciate It If Somebody Could Show Me How To Change My Characters Small Portraits. Thanks All, And Any Help Is Greatly Appreciated!  :)

How did he mess up the portraits? As in they appeared all discolored?

Yeah They Came Out Discolored. I Just Need Someone To Explain How To Replace A Portrait.

There are 2 possibilities for your problem;

The portrait is somewhere in the middle of the character's SFF. It may also have a shared pallete. You have to move the portrait to either the very beginning of the SFF file (So it should be the first sprite in the SFF), or the very end.

The other thing is that your character's portrait might just be discolored due to the glitch, so you just might want to download the character again, and replace your glitched portrait with the new one.

Okay, When I Enter The Game, I See My Select Portraits. When I Enter A Match, My Characters Portrait Is All Messed Up. I Only Have One Palette For The Character So I Don't See How That Would Be A Problem.

Does it look messed up when you open it in fighter factory?

In fighter factory, make sure you dont have a check in the box that says "Shared Palette" for the little portrate.
If it is checked, uncheck it.

I Did That, And It Is Still Discolored.

The problem is that when the portrait is on the select screen it uses it's own palette but once you see it in the lifebars it uses a shared palette. If the portrait doesn't have the exact same palete as the character then it will look messed up in the lifebar.

so if you want to fix it, you'lll need to extract one sprite of the character (possibaly from the one of the stance sprites) and the portrait pic, open them both in a paint shop or photo shop program, then save the pallete from the stance sprite ,(call it whatever and save) then hightlight the portrait pic and load the pallete, (note: you might have a different backround color, so if that's the case color the portrait backround with what you have in the stance pic)

alternatively, you can just make a new portrait pic from the stance pic or any other pic (and reduce it to 25x25 pixels)
hopefully that helps you

None Of This Is Working For Some Reason. Would Somebody Be Willing To Convert The Portraits That I Have Already Made? There Is Twenty I Believe. Or Possibly Make A Video Tutorial Explaining How? I Would Very Much Appreciate That.

Yeah You Did. And I Followed It Exactly And Thats When I Had Told You My Life Bar Portraits Were Messed Up, Discolored. The Transparency Worked And There Was No Discoloration In Fighter Factory, Its Only When I Enter A Match That They Appear All Discolored. Im Stumped.
