Title: Steam and games on it.
Post by: Super Flip on June 26, 2010, 12:22:14 AM
Steam is a gaming service for the PC provided by the company Valve that provides full downloadable games, a whole community network complete with groups and message boards, and more.

If this has caught your interest, you can learn more here: http://store.steampowered.com/ (http://store.steampowered.com/)

So who has Steam, and what games have you bought on it?
For me, I have bought Half Life, Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, and Counter-Strike: Source.

Yeah.. I kinda bought L4D2 yesterday.. and now it's $10 off today.. so I was kinda mad about that.. that's $10 wasted.. haha.. but yeah.. I did get L4d2 if anyone wants to play.. =-)

I wonder if I should get Team Fortress 2........ :-??

TF2's pretty good, it's just the recent updates have kinda unbalanced it a bit *and made it more of a memory hog on PC's, but I'm sure you'll be able to play it fine if you can run L4D2.*

I must warn you though, playing TF2 can make you lose track of time, it happens to me quite often.  :D

I have to recommend Portal. The actual game is short (bout 3 hours max) but oh so satisfying.

Also, be on the lookout for Black Mesa when it finally comes out. It's a fan-made enhanced retelling of the story of Half-Life using everything the Source engine has to offer. Here's a teaser trailer.

I totally recommend TF2.  Its a very fun game, and was supersam said, you'll easily lose track of time while playing it.
Atice, I don't have L4D2, but wanna add me on steam in case you do get TF2?

@ G_Lux, that looks VERY impressive.  I'm gonna have to check it out when it's released, having never played HL1. (Shame, I know)

I have Steam. I bought the Orange Box originally, and then bought Counter Strike: Source, Garry's Mod, and more recently the whole Crysis pack, only to find out that it lags horribly on my computer. o.O# And yeah, I find GMod and Team Fortress 2 to be very addicting.

Yeah.. well now I feel really miserable.. not only did I waste $10, but now that L4D2 is 66% off.... omg.... I wasted like 20 something.... Thanks a lot Steam! \-/o

that's why it's good to wait. I knew SSHD 2nd encounter was going to come out and I knew they would bundle it for really cheap so I waited.

:-SS I agree it does suck to get knocked for the buck, but L4D2 is pretty much PURE, UNBRIDLED, multiplayer W*N! You can't put an actual price on the fun times you'll have in-capping your fellow survivors with (lolz) "friendly" fire, or the "congratulatory hugs" you'll have the honor of giving your infected equals...
 (especially boomers).  :D
But yeah, I get ya, a buck's still a buck. Personally i just run L4D on Steam because of the modding community. When it comes to multi-player I almost strictly XBL.

I hope I don't sound like a walking advertisement for saying this but,
Half Life 2 is 3.99 at the moment, a big savings from the original 10 bucks it usually costs.

And lest we forget, all the mods made for said engine as well.
So for those who can get it, I suggest grabbing it while it's still cheap.

Many of the games on Steam that were discounted before are discounted again so if you missed your chance to buy anything buy it now.

The Engie update is AMAZING, however I'll play as pyro until the hype wears down and I can engineer properly with my teammates while providing spy protection for the idiots that don't know what they're doing and spam mini-sentries.  ;D :-??

Yeah, I mean, why the hell use a mini sentry on defense when you can use a LVL3 normal sentry?
I still find the unlocks to be most useful for offense.
I'm also waiting for this hype to die down, until then I'll just play L4D2 or mess around on non-srs TF2 servers.

Bumped. Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 had the new DLC released called "The Sacrifice". So, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 are now available at REALLY low prices, but only until Thursday at 4PM. I bought the Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 bundle, so I'm good now. Awesome price for both games if you ask me, because Valve's awesome like that.

Might be a necro, but, I as might as well update on my Steam stuff. :-??
Just got a whole bunch of games for Steam on January 2nd thanks to the way Steam handles sales, which is pretty weird. Got the Half-Life Anthology for about $2.00, which included Half-life 1, HL1: Blue Shift, HL1: Opposing Force, and Team Fortress Classic. I also got Day of Defeat, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch for about $1 each, and Poker Night at the Inventory for free from one of those sites where you do surveys for points. My thoughts? "Today is a good day." But yeah, it's best to get games on Steam when they're doing sales, you can get a great deal from them.

Hehe.. Since last June I've gotten Bioshock 1 & 2, DiRT 2, Far Cry 2, Oddworld Pack, Sniper Ghost Warrior, Wings of Prey, Trials 2 HD, Zombie Driver, Doom II: Hell on Earth, FUEL, Counter Strike: Source, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Audiosurf, Borderlands, and on the 2nd I got Super Meat Boy.

Super Meat Boy, World of Goo, and Zombie Driver are definitely games you want to get if you like playing those newgrounds and miniclip games. They feel a lot like them but obviously more worked on and thought out.

I did get TF2, but I haven't played it in like... months.. and I really cant believe they keep updating it every 5 seconds.. it gets annoying sometimes..

but unfortunately nobody is ever online, and none of my friends have it. So yeah, someone play with me pretty please! ;*))

Also, Worms Reloaded is pretty damn fun..although I wish Worms 4 Mayhem was on Steam as well.

I agree completely.  I bought the Potato Sack, which was a huge deal for including Super Meat Boy, The Ball, Killing Floor, Amnesia, Audiosurf, and like eight other games that are usually $10 - $20 for just $40 bundled together.

Also, anyone try out the Steam Trading feature?  I traded my TF2 Bill's Hat for Borderlands GOTY.

Super Meat Boy is A LOT of fun. I even bought the soundtrack from the creator's website. I have almost every game that you got but The Ball.. but I have many more main games like DiRT 2, 3.. Bioshock, Back to the Future, all them. :)

By the way, you can trade-in game items for actual games now? o_O I'm confused.
Title: Re: Steam and games on it.
Post by: Error Macro on September 20, 2011, 04:52:48 AM
After like, what, almost a year of TF2's trading feature being used for trading games for items, Valve finally decided to make a more secure and official method.  Before that, you would actually open TF2 to trade with them and hope that each other would live up to the deal or use a middleman.

But now, you can just trade directly from Steam chat by choosing stuff from your inventory.   It contains games you have as gifts, TF2 items, Spiral Knights items, and Portal 2 items.

You can read more about it here.

I just got uh... Kane and Lynch 1 & Dark Sector from that.

In case you're wondering what Dark Sector is... it's a shooter, and Michael Rosenbaum does the main character's voice... need I say more? XD
