I've always wanted to play Gary's Mod, but do need half life to play it?

as far as mods goes, it comes with all the parts you would need from Half Life 2.

in other words, no you don't Have to have it, I don't think.

However, for everything to display properly in Garry's mod, you need some of the games off of Steam
like Counter Strike: Source and some others. but it is VERY MUCH playable without it.
it's just some levels are pre-made by other people with those parts from the other games in it, and it can cause some bugs, but nothing serious, lol long post, hope I could help!  :)

Garry's Mod is bundled with anything that uses that specific engine, by steam I believe.
