Title: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: KPT25 on February 09, 2010, 02:49:25 PM
After noticing a few ppl that used to play it or play the game,i decided to make a YGO thread to comment on the current happenings of the game in general or what are your favorite cards/combos/decks,or whatever you feel like commenting about the card game itself

So let's break the ice with this question:what are your thoughts of the current format?
Any predictions for the March "Banlist"?

Imo,something has to be done to hit Lightsworn decks...they have been running around pretty much untouched for at least a year and a half, and the deck is only dominating now because of how other decks got weakened in September

Also, did anyone got to the pre-release events of the new set Absolute Powerforce?
I did,but i pulled nothing worth mentioning out of my 5 packs  :'(

I still play i have 3 main decks , Lightsworn , Gladiator beast and my own personal I've won many local tournaments and came out in the top 8 in the regional not to mention a few toy r us tournaments.

I think the current ban/limited list slowed down the lightsworn and gladiator beast decks way too much

I can only run 2 Judgment dragon's and for Gb only one retiari is nsane!

Idk if I should be putting this here or not... but I am selling 100 Mixed Lots of Yugioh cards on eBay.. so if anyone wants me to provide a link, I can.

I have like 1000 of those cards... lol...

GB's being slowed down is indeed a fact.Rescue Cat,Cold Wave and Solemn Judgment at 1 really put a dent on how competitive it is.btw, the Glad you are talking about is not Retiari,is Bestiari  :P

LS,on the other hand, didn't even get hit at all in September, which pissed off everyone not playing Lightsworn. It's currently the fastest deck of the format, and the key cards have a bullseye on the list in March   :-w

I have quite a few decks, and i have won a few locals lately(haven't really been in the game for a long time).I currently run Blackwings, but i'm finishing up X-Sabers and have the stuff to build Fortune Ladies,Spellcasters based on sp.counters,Aliens,Morphtronics and mainly,a Gradius themed deck with Victory Viper XX03 as one of the main cards
Haven't had the chance yet to be at a regional(because there were none so far)

@ATICE:cards from what sets are included on the lot?

@ATICE:cards from what sets are included on the lot?
I have like... well... they're mostly cards from the original series... I don't have any uh... GX cards... well... barely any... Like I tell the buyers on eBay, if you're looking for specifics just name them...

Here's the link to my listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/100-Yu-Gi-Oh-Cards-MIXED-LOT_W0QQitemZ320439338388QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9bac4594 (http://cgi.ebay.com/100-Yu-Gi-Oh-Cards-MIXED-LOT_W0QQitemZ320439338388QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9bac4594)

I was in third grade when yugioh first came out, so I guess i'm still very addicted. I've liked all the cards from each set. I just think the concept for the 5'ds show is stupid. "Let's play this on motorcycles going over 200mph! How fun!"  o.O# But the cards themselves are cool though, no doubt

the concept looked stupid to me,but the mechanics and the adjustments they made for the riding duels are pretty interesting, specially in the latter episodes where the field actually does something for the game(Speed World 2 that is)

I heard bout the movie, just not them actually fusing a monster together. And isn't there a rule where you can only have 15 cards in your fusion deck anyways?

Are you going by actual rules or just tournament rules.... because unless you're going to be in a tournament anytime soon.. I wouldn't really follow the tournament rules... Do they even have Yugioh tournaments anymore?

I played Yu Gi Oh before I played Magic. I was a national champion for Yu Gi Oh, won a few shonen jumps & was a top rated player in the USA for awhile on Upper Decks website.
I started getting mad when I would pay a ton of money for cards & build decks, then they would ban things. Because they were trying to make it fair for all to play. Screw that, if someone can't afford to buy the cards they shouldn't play in the big tournaments. Or if they do, they shouldn't really expect to beat me with my 1000 dollar chaos deck. Not an exxageration either, I had Morphing Jars in their when you could only get them in tournamant packs.  That card alone was like $400. I played after they banned yata * chaos & everything that was good. But it seemed everytime I had a winning deck & it got posted on the net, the next ban list had half the cards on it. Why ban Pot of Greed? It was a rare, anyone could afford it. Then those Dark Beginning sets came out & all the hard to find cards that were worth something from tournament packs were now commons. What was upper deck thinking there? I was smart enough to get rid of my needle worms & royal decree's before those sets came out. But still every kid around now had needle worms, just sad. Winning tournaments to get those packs used to mean something before that. that stupid last turn deck used to p*ss me off too. that d*mn deck took no skill to play. That was one card that deserved to be banned. I still played after all that but lost interest & went to magic. My last deck was all common versions of cards & they were all normal monsters with order to charge & things. that deck used to win a lot. No one expected it at the major tourneys. I still have 1000's of Yu Gi Oh cards now. Antone want to buy them? lol

yep your right it is bestiari! Don't Worry about LS there all going to be re-printed so the cards are going
to be extra cheap they already re-printed Honest! so it's not long before everyone had a LS deck and
that would only lead to some of the cards being limited/banned even though Gladiator's been slowed down
their perfect against LS, LS just can't stop them from swarming! I know this because I run both.

One of my favorite deck themes was always the ArchFiends. Of course there draw back being paying Life Points, but I stacked that field spell that makes both players pay it and the creature that made it so you didn't have to do it either. I also liked the ability to negate certain effects with dice rolls, so I used some traps that allowed you to reroll dice as well. What are some other good Deck Types guys?

@DT: That's why I never played by the tournament rules... It was really weird how they were banning cards that are actually important... If I'm not mistaken they even banned Change of Heart & Monster Reborn.... I used to laugh at all my friends who played with the tournament rules because I would pwn them... then one day about half of them decided "We're not dueling anyone who doesn't abide by the tournament rules..." And I was just like... wtf... half of my cards are "banned from Yugioh dueling".... and they were like "oh well..."... It's one of the reasons I'm selling them on eBay.. I got fed up with all the bull... and I hate how some duelers take it WAYY TOO SERIOUSLY... like the card effects.. some of the card effects can have different attitudes to them... making you think they're supposed to do or prevent one thing, when they're doing or preventing another thing from happening... It just got totally crazy...

What's crazier is when YGO was first released, how instantly it got banned from schools because there were "Card Sharks". People would challenge other people to duels, and winners got to keep the other players cards. You kow, Like they did in the anime  o.O#. Seriously, why would you even accept a challenge like that?
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG

lol! i used to be a card shark i used to take people deck's o well they should of never accepted the challenge. It became popular after the episode with the "rare" hunters duelist that hunt for rare cards in the anime. After that everyone in school wanted to be just like them.

Last I played in major tournaments your fusion deck could be as big as you wanted. I had a magical scientist deck & my fusion deck consisted of like 100 cards I'd pull it out & set it next to my deck 7 people would think I was out of my mind, until they seen there life points go away on turn one & some just really didn't understand what happened ...lol

@DT: That's why I never played by the tournament rules... It was really weird how they were banning cards that are actually important... That's all I ever played these card games for. I am a tournament player. the only reason I would ever play anyone for fun, was to stay in practice my deck for the tournaments.

Me and my friends had those type of duels sometimes.. but it was just for a few cards... never for an entire deck.

Yeah...the 15 cards limit in the fusion deck(now called Extra deck) was to introduce the synchro summon mechanic to the game, which has changed the way many decks were played. It kind of sucks, but on the other side we are able to have our main, side and extra deck in a single deck box  ;*))

On one point,YGO keeps all the cards released available, while limiting or even banning cards that produce too much of an advantage.Magic makes set rotation and forces you to buy the new stuff in order to being able to play

And in all honesty,KDE has only banned cards that were literally killing the game(the lastest offender was a synchro monster ironically,[lmgt]Dark Strike Fighter[/lmgt].With two of those attacking directly and activating their effects, you win the game dealing 8000 dmg to lp)

Cards can come and go from the list, the best example of this are chaos sorcerer and Breaker,Magical warrior.Banned a long time ago,now you can run 2 and 3 of each in your deck. But it's still KDE's fault for failing at playtesting and card design when releasing broken stuff like DSF or overnerfing certain effects
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: DARKTALBAIN on February 10, 2010, 11:22:38 AM
:o Breeeeeeeeeeeaker the magical warrior. You can run 3 now? OMG! He was always a favorite of mine. I had a bad @$$ magician deck, it just couldn't hang with chaos. It was so close to consistently beating it. But my chaos deck was always just a tad faster. I always wanted to just win a shonen jump with a  magician deck. It would have been rough.

I want to see your card list now...

(really)

Are you talking to me?

Post by: Epicsmith93 on February 10, 2010, 11:23:23 AM
From time to time, I played YGO expert, which is a cool game made by everyday normal people, anyways. It was a online game and I made a deck revolving around the DSF. There were cards that Mine Tokens. They were level 10's and when they left the field, your opponent lost 800 life points. So waht I would do is make 2 or 3 mine tokens, get DSF on the field, and deal about 8000 points 'o' damage on the spot. I enetered a tourney with this deck, but literally, 2 minuets before it started, the admins left a global message to all players saying they couldn't use it. To bad for me entering the tourney a min after that  :D. So I won that tourney, then got banned for using a illegal card that I didn't know was illegal at the time.  :-??
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: KPT25 on February 10, 2010, 12:21:09 PM
lol, that Anime card that gave the mine tokens was pretty broken for a DSF themed deck   o.O#
Why they decided to make it into that online game,i don't really know

@DT:yeah,winning a shonen with a pure spellcaster/magician deck would be a tough spot, specially with stuff like Lightsworn spreading like a plague now that are much cheaper than before(all 3 big money cards-Judgment Dragon,Honest and Charge of the Light Brigade- were reprinted and became easier to obtain)

You also said you won a jump, what was the SJCS card you were given by winning the event?do you still have it or did you sell it?

Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: DARKTALBAIN on February 10, 2010, 02:30:02 PM
I won Cyber Stein. I do not have it anymore. The day I won it after the long drive home, I put it on ebay & got $1800 for it. It helped make up for some of the money I blew on cards back then. I look back at all the money I wasted on cards back then & it was stupid.

How much will it cost me to build a lightswarm deck right now? They reprinted the cards & they are all cheap? I may get back into this. I know upper deck sent me a tournament invitation about a month ago. I just got sick & tired of spending a sh*t load of money to have card board that I play a game with. The money, prizes & notoriety you got from winning these tournaments was never worth what I spent.

don't build LS,they will be hit hard by the banlist(which should be revealed by the weekend most likely)
If i were you,i'd build Blackwings,as its base is pretty cheap to make and they will get more support in upcoming sets.Gladiator Beast are also pretty good, despite not receiving direct support for a while
The only expensive stuff are Vayu and the Extra deck to some extent(but no card is more expensive than 30/35 dollars, excluding Dark Armed Dragon maybe)

I fell out of favor of this game when I realized that the metagame is so strange that there is a banlist that changes that is hard to keep up with.

The other thing is the vague game mechanics, without explanation, for example nowhere in the rules is the turn count described, yet :Pyro Clock of Destiny" refers to it.
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: KPT25 on February 10, 2010, 07:52:28 PM
Found a little hole there, but mostly this used for cards that actually change their effects over the turns, like Swords of Revealing Light and Final Countdown for example
Tecnically, you can count every single turn of the game, but it's not relevant until card effect bring them to attention

Yeah I host tournies locally, and I am ECSTATIC thay LSs are being torn apart. I am SICK TO DEATH of the metagame. I welcome this change and I hope it stays through a few banlists. I myself run a couple of seriously non-metagame decks (main deck that I've worked on the most is a Cloudian deck, but I also have a Gradius deck, a fairy deck and now a Lycanthrope/ritual deck) but the same metadecks win my tournies and I would like to see that change. Aliens cane be a fun deck, the recent addition of the Gate of the Six Samurai has made the Six Sams a little more of a challenge, and Blackwings are a pain in the butt. Here's to hoping they get limited in the NEXT banlist.
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: Epicsmith93 on February 10, 2010, 08:53:18 PM
I actually tried to make a Six Samurai deck before, but it was hard because I kept getting the same 2 Samurai every time, and card shops around here don't sell yugioh singles. I also attempted to make a alien Deck, but I also mixed in some Roid monsters to make what I call "Intergalactic Devastation." I used DNA Surgery (I think it was that or DNA Transplant) and made my aliens warrior types. Then fused my Alien Mother to my UFORoid, and made a monster around 3400 atk, and gave it 1 or 2 equip spells, to make it just about 4000 if I could remember right. If I still had my cards, I could remember clearly, but I gave them to my lil bro (out of kindness) and he lost them all on me  :-??

They made it in China, then brought them to US and stuff.
It's obvious they were trying to make profit out of it,otherwise why bother to do it knowing the risks if KDE learned from it

So Upper Deck made counterfeits of what it could legally produce (and had a license to) to make a quick buck. The judge that issued the injunction must have laughed his head off.

Congrats, you now have counterfeit as a new rarity. L-)

They probably couldn't legally produce them. For example, legacy of darkness they were supposed to stop production on years ago. But there are still some cards in that set that are in demand. I guess they thought why not still produce them under a different company, but we still get a cut on the profits. Pretty shady, but I'm sure they made money with that scam.

I assumed that it modern and current stuff. Either way it was a huge risk.

but we still get a cut on the profits. Pretty shady, but I'm sure they made money with that scam.

And they thought it was worth losing the license and the related revenue stream. They really didn't come out ahead if they have to pay damages.

the prediction is not "Will they hit LS?" but "How hard will LS be hit?" Because besides bringing Judgment Dragon down to 2,no other changes were made because Japan got Charge of the light brigade last september(after the banlist) :P

Post Merge: February 16, 2010, 01:31:24 PM

Apparently this will be the list, effective March 1st 2010

Tragoedia
Necro Guardna
Necroface
Mezuki
Lightlord Summoner - Lumina
Burial from a Different Dimension
Foolish Burial
Destiny Draw

Cyber Dragon
Demise - King of Armageddon

Well, that appears to be the list, and imo,it's pretty good overall balancing the game
I still don't know if it's true due to the fact that JD is still at 2...but we'll learn the truth soon enough. But atm, this is the list

Meh I'll wait for the official list, i find it weird that they left GB alone.

Where is the actual ban list? I want to see that. Pot of Greed, Monster Reborn & cards like that are still on there., right?
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: KPT25 on February 17, 2010, 10:55:56 AM
they are there...but banned from Advance play
Monster Reborn got legal until last september...and probably will never come back

http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/limited/ (http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/limited/)
This is the banlist that will be valid until March 1st
And the V-Jump scans have proven that the changes i posted above are real.I'm pissed at the fact Judgment Dragon is still @ 2,but the deck is kinda dead anyway
Changes in the TCG will feature Brionac being limited to one for sure, and maybe the addition of Dewloren,Tiger of the Ice Barrier to the Semi limited list to match Japan(card will be released in HA02)

Geez I haven't seen that list in so long.....

Dark Magician of Chaos is now banned?

There's a lot of cards on that list.

yeah, and don't forget to add the new cards to the list this march
Still,in my opinion this next format will be one of the most balanced in a while(i have played competitively only since the middle of 2009)

I haven't played in forever, I watched every episode of the original series when I was little, though, what was the name of that  big famous supa-powaful boss 5-card moster from the first series? Yeah, I had his left arm and right foot or something, shame I never got them all.
POKEMON IS WHERE IT IS! Ain't that right, DT?

It's Exodia...if you gather the five pieces in your hand, you win the game(literally)

Like, you draw 5 cards and it just happens to be those, then you automatically win? 0.o

Yea but that's close to impossible the best thing to do is run 3 Gold sarcophagus.

Yea but that's close to impossible the best thing to do is run 3 Gold sarcophagus.
and even then,you can't due to,as Gold Sarcophagus is semi-limited(at 2)
so for the ppl who is playing the game, what kind of deck do you see yourself running during this format?
I'll be running Blackwings(some good support coming),X-Saber and if they are not very expensive to build(and if i can get a hold of Archfiends) Infernities

I had a decent Exodia deck, once.

Sorry Red Ronin, never really played the pokemon card game at all

I'll just run GB since their usually unstoppable unless you run oppression.

Post by: KPT25 on February 19, 2010, 11:16:46 AM
Blackwings will say hello... [-X
Still,on next format i plan to run X-Sabers as well as Blackwings(all i need for the X-Saber is 1 Saber Hole and 3 XX-Saber Emmersblades to complete it,but the monster is pretty expensive atm due to massive hype sadly)
I sincerely hope that with a slower speed format,X-Sabers can climb to the top very soon(LS engine variants sucked)

Don't get me wrong. I am a huge fan of Pokemon the RPG games on any of the hand held systems. The stadium games are allright on the consoles, also

Hatching those eggs were really cool. The anticipation of seeing what would come out was great. I could never get a Mew, or Mewtwo. But then I did get a Haunter, so I was happy.

But.....

The card game, I just never really got into it.  :-??

me neither...i don't like the fact that there are constant reprints of most of the cards and the set rotations
But i guess this is due to the fact of the limited amount of creatures they have to work with("only" 493)
I've seen ppl playing it,but i never really got interested enough

They hit lightsworns hard

Now it's

only one lumina
only two honest
only one charge of light brigade

At least they had the decency to leave JD alone.

My era of being great at Yu Gi Oh was all about speed. Half the time I would get the dragon out turn two, blow up everything & yata lock them. My decks were always built faster than anyone elses & I played them better.

Speaking of which I just found my Yu Gi Oh championship trophy. It's pretty cool, I'll have to take some pics of it & post them. Floating pyramid, glass case,  blah blah blah  lol

I'm so glad yata was banned he was the most broken card in history. lol i have a trophy just like that as well it's just a matter of finding it.

Yata was the most amazing card ever made. Who could think a 200 attack monster could be so broken...lol

I don't know, hand control was pretty slow. It's not like you could just bring out yata & it was over. There was a definite strategy involving playing that deck. I liked that era a lot also. I mean anyone with half a brain at the big tournaments was running hand destruction. It was whoever played the deck better that won.

They banned or restricted all those cards after that. Drop off, Time seal , forceful sentry, confiscation. At the time it didn't really matter, since the envoys were still running around....lol
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: KPT25 on February 23, 2010, 12:23:22 PM
drop off was never banned iirc, but Time Seal and specially Sentry and Confiscation are banned. The latter two not only gave hand advantage, they allowed you to know your opponent's hand and predict the next plays
Trap Dustshoot is a nerfed Forceful Sentry,as it's a trap and opponent need 4 cards in hand to use it,but it still very broken when comboed with Mind Crush

Bump...new format and a couple of decks surprised everyone in the last SJC tournament of the format.
A Gradius Space Fighter deck and an X-Saber deck(that ended up third place) were the highlights of the top 16,specially because i have almost everything to build those decks(i lack a few stuff from the X-Saber deck)

the possibilities are endless.

yep
On a side note,i'm completely shocked at the price of XX-Saber Emmersblade has reached this past weekend...nobody on their right mind would pay around 90/100 dollars for a recruiter of the likes of Nova Summoner or Pyramid Turtle(i was able to get one last sunday at around u$s 50,which is a lot for a piece of cardboard. My currency is pretty close to 1 dollar=4 pesos so you get the idea)

How much money to do pay for regular booster packs?Over here in Argentina everything is pretty expensive due to currency,to the point that we have to pay almost twice for Tins,Packs and even Regionals to that amount(around 30 dollars at registering, even by getting 5 packs is not worth it)

This deck has a value of 800 dollars o.O but i made it with 150 bucks. (craiglist)

It's tournament ready i won a local tournament today at a local comic book shop, and i'm 17-2 so far both loses to other light sworn decks.

I've swept the blackwings meaning i never lost one duel in a best two out of three 6-0 and i'm 3-0 against glads.

Yeah I am so done with paying all kinds of money for pieces of cardboard to win tournaments only to say i am better than someone. Because that's all you get out of it. The money/prizes you win never equals out to the cash you shell out buying new cards. In order to stay on top you have to keep getting the new stuff & building the newest decks. It's just not worth it to me anymore
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG

then, you can have fun buying 3 copies of the latest structure deck released,Machina Mayhem
Structure decks over there in US cost 10 bucks,so you can technically make a decent deck for 30/40 dollars(maybe a little more if you add some staples like Mirror Force,Solemn Judgment, etc) as the core cards are in there
I'm planning on getting the stuff to build the Machina Gadgets deck as soon as i get one copy of the deck(i have most of the common stuff already, spare Gadgets don't hurt at all)
Some decks are being able to resist time, two of them are Gladiator Beast and Gadgets
Title: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Post by: DARKTALBAIN on April 01, 2010, 12:41:52 AM
I still have all my old cards. So I wouldn't have to buy Mirror force, Solemn judgement, or any of the old staples that aren't banned. But is that machine gadget deck really worthy of hard core tournament play?
